So next season? Who will step up?

Who does everyone see pushing on next season?
I'd love to see Can and Markovic really take games by the scruff of the neck and think they both could if played in the right place in the right formation (good luck with that boys).
I also reckon Henderson will benefit from Gerrard leaving and become more of a force.

We ended last season on such a low, it's hard to have much belief in any of them, but they are young and Milner is a good experienced buy who should help.

You know I typed this exact post out yesterday, exact same title as well, even did a few variations on line ups.

Then I thought...FUCK it.

kudos

I think Markovic will step up yes.

He will bulk up a bit and have a full preseason to get to grips with it. The raw meterials are there.

I think Balotelli, Lambert are goners.

And I dont think there is much wrong with Lovren, Moreno, Lallana and Can that coaching wont sort out.

Wether we can coach them depends on whom we have coming in to do the coaching while Mr Rodgers looks smug and talks about character.

I think Can and Ibe and Coutinho will improve. Mignolet, fingers crossed, will now settle down, keep working and evolve as a decent keeper. Moreno is still a bit of a mystery to me but I'm hoping he'll actually look like he's been coached and starts improving, too. It's not quite a spine but it's getting there.

None of that will matter unless we actually go out, one year late, and get a seriously good striker.

Ibe

apart from him I feel seriously miserable and pessimistic about next season

I think quite a few of our guys can / will step up next season:

Mignolet - second half of last season gives hope and guarded confidence that he'll stay in form

Ibe - starts contributing some goals and assists once he's played further up (0 in either category last season in 12 league games)

Can - after a year for adaptation and fresh with confidence from a good Euro U21 display; expect him to get caught out at times though in midfield and cost us points as he learns his role

Markovic - after a year for adaptation and strengthening - and once he's played further up

Milner - he'll bring more quickness and pace to one of the CM spots

Henderson - he'll get more help defensively from Milner than Gerrard; don't expect him to make up for Gerrard's penalty lethality though

Coutinho - it's his team now and I'm expecting - or maybe hoping for - him to have a breakthrough season, especially if we have Sturridge fit or better strikers

Flanagan, Sturridge & Lallana - they'll hopefully be fitter this season to play much more than the 2,530+ combined league minutes in 14/15

The problem? Defenders. I'm not sure they'll get better quickly enough. Maybe they could if we've got a good assistant manager and/or first team coach to teach them the basics of defending again. Despite all the ink that's been spilled about our defensive system, let's be clear - a lot of our defensive problems are also due to individual incompetence (losing man in corners, awful shot-blocking, going for the eye-catching slide tackle then staying on feet and blocking, etc.)

Ibe will be ace. And will go on to better sterling. Lallana will kill it, as will Hendo now that Gerrard is a goner.
Markovic possibly. Balo will no doubt be sold, but if not and if he's played in a pair, he could come good. But if he's played alone as he has been, it'll be the same again sadly.

Ibe Henderson Moreno and Can are the ones I expect to take a big step forward next season, if Coutinho improves by 5% then thats good progress from him. Markovic looks more like a flop every time I see him, I dont think hes going to come good, nor Balotelli, the attitudes just dont look right. I have a small sliver of hope Lovren will mysteriously start playing like a competent defender again next year.

With the exception of Ibe, who actually does that weird thing, like, training, to, like, improve how he, like, plays, this current bunch of lazy twats just seem to get tattoos all the damned time.

With a body decorated with ink and a penchant for a big tackle, Alberto Moreno could come across as a bit of a wild man.

Fearless he may be, but the Spaniard met his match when he came across a ten foot python in an Ibiza tattoo parlour.

Posing for a picture with his reptilian friend, Moreno admitted on Instagram he was 'scared' as he held his new chum around his neck.

However the left back (left) had his critics last season after gaining a reputation for being careless on the ball
The Liverpool defender, who joined from Sevilla for £12m last summer, was quickly welcomed by the Anfield faithful after scoring a memorable solo goal against Tottenham on the second game of the season.

However the left-back, 22, attracted criticism from certain corners of Anfield for his carelessness on the ball in dangerous situations, most memorably in the Reds' 4-1 loss to Arsenal in April.

Liverpool will soon head out to the Far East on their pre-season tour and will begin proceedings against Thai All Stars - who suffered a narrow loss to Chelsea in May - in Bangkok on July 14.

The usual suspects will step up: Coutinho and Can. Too early to place big hopes on Markovic, hope one or two other players will surprise me.
