So... about that 4th spot

Status
Not open for further replies.
Not concerned about 4th as yet as last year we were 26th in the league and rocketed up in a matter of games.

Good post Onky. Jeezzeess, Im frustrated. John fucking Ruddy looked like Walter Zenga tonight.
There was a great quote by Peter Schmeical that Robbie Fowler was so good because he always hit the side netting (on the inside of course) every fucking shot we have is straight at the keeper.
Why's our best finisher continually left out in the cold for Stewart fucking Downing is what i'd love to know.

Kenny clearly has favorites but it's costing our Club dearly.

Well i haven't been confident of 4th for weeks now . We've spent over £100m (and yes i know we took some money in) but bar Suarez , most of those big money signings came with question marks , mainly "can they step up to the standard we want ? " .....and well so far for me certainly Downing , Henderson and Carroll haven't done much to prove they can. Enrique has been good but like i mentioned before i sometimes worry over his relaxed defending . Adam is decent i guess but good enough for where we want to be ? and he has to sort out this shite of fading after 60mins, it's embarrassing .

I'm sorry but £100m+ and we look no better than the 2nd half of last season , ok some of that £100m was spent last january but still , this summer's dealings are so far looking useless and a waste of money . Kenny's tactics aren't wrecking my head the same way benitez's or he who should never be named did but i really have to question some of the transfer dealings . I know the money spent in the prem league is crazy but surely for what we've spent we should be seeing more .

And i can't believe we've dropped so much that 4th , FUCKING 4th , is now considered a success . And what's more we probably won't even make that !!!

Rubbish.

And heres the thing thats really grinding my gears.......something that ground my gears when Robbie keane was here too.

Carroll plays vs Arsenal and we win 2-0
Carroll plays vs Exeter scores and we win 3-1
Picks up a knock and isnt fit to start vs Bolton and thats fair enough, cant argue with it.
Still doesnt play vs Stoke and we lose
Plays vs Wolves and we win.
Plays vs Everton scores and we win.
Then gets dropped vs United
Then gets dropped vs NORWICH and is finally brought on with ten minutes left when we have taken our wingers Bellamy and Downing off. WHATS THE FUCKING POINT.
We've won 4 league games so far and Andy Carroll has started three of them
Of the other 4 games (im not counting Tottenham for or against anyone) 3 draws and a defeat he has only started one game thats against Sunderland on the opening day of the season.

WITH - 3 wins and 1 draw
WITHOUT - 1 win, 2 draws, 1 defeat

To clarify
WITH - 10 points
WITHOUT - 5 points.

I dont think he is the answer to all our problems, but I know he gets the best of those around him because he occupies defenders. Maybe Suarez wouldnt spend half as long rolling around on his arse if Carroll was there to shoulder the burdon.

You pay 35m for a player and then you see that it WORKS (even if he isnt tearing up trees) and then you bun that idea and go with one that doesnt.
BRILLIANT.

baffled by the suarez criticism. not a clinical finisher but a world class talent. completely dumbfounded that anyone would give a flying fuck about his 'antics'. give me a fucking break.

but overall, i'm not happy AT ALL with how we've spent/sold since january. here's hoping Benitez is back next season with the support he deserves but barely ever received.

He is cutting such a frustrated figure playing the loan(ish) striking role. I want to see him smile not lying on his face slapping the floor and screaming for the 37th time every game.

Great post Onky. If he got benched today because of his efforts in the Rangers game, Kenny needs tp take a long look in the mirror about proving a point towards Carroll.

I get such a Rafa flashback from this situation. Score a goal against Everton and then benched for the two next games.

Im so pissed of lads.

That team that tore Fulham to fucking shreds near the back end of last season with Maxi and Meireles in it seems far removed from this team.

Maybe the new lads will all bed in eventually but I really wish wed stop doing daft things when the obvious things work.

fair enough. i honestly couldn't care less personally, but then i don't mind players diving, feigning injury, or waving imaginary cards. i'm a ruthless mother, me.

i think your with/without Carroll argument is pretty spurious though: yes, points is points, but we've played great stuff and created shitloads without him (bolton, utd, today) so i don't think a lack of space for suarez etc is really an issue. i completely agree about going backwards without maxi and meireles and the style they encouraged, and to a certain extent about aqua as well.

really bad business last summer imo: the wrong positions priortised, and the wrong players identified. doesn't get much worse.

He should not be playing the loan striker ish or otherwise, it's not fair on him. The ref was a bit of a twat with him today as well, he gave him nothing.

Simple fact is we sold Meireles, Aquilani and Cole, froze Maxi out of the team and have replaced them with Downing, Adam, Henderson. Its not good enough. I dont understand it. I dont fucking get the thought process in that.

The difference with Meireles and Maxi is that they can finish. Give them chances and they'll take them more often than not. Simple but true.

I thought we played some excellent stuff today especially in the first 20' and we should've scored 2 or 3 at least before half time.

I'd say our approach play is as good as I've seen for sometime, better finishing is the key factor.

I reckon we'll click, I'd be worried if we weren't creating but we're carving out plenty of chances.

maybe someone is getting a fucking hiding very soon.

I was just about to say exactly that. Before too long we will really hammer somebody and the goals will start flowing.

One thing which would help IMO is Bellamy getting more game time.

I think suarez is the least of our worries but yeah i do agree he needs to start taking some more of the chances he makes and cut out some of the shite as it rarely benefits. If he can do that then he'll be world class . Actually , what is it with some of these 'foreign' lads ....if they don't get a few decisions their way they seem to get into a personal battle with the refs and put all their efforts into winning a decision . torres was the same .

And it's not been a great start to the season , i've been one of the most negative on here about our progress, but I'm not sure we're at the stage of calling for Benitez back just yet!!!!

i'm totally with you mate. i've not said it on here til now, cos it seems like quite a big statement, but last window was the first time in yearswhen i really felt we were moving backwards, not because of the players bought (obv rafa had some windows where we went backwards) but because the whole transfer policy seemed retrograde. under benitez (and usually under houllier) i always felt i could see what we were trying to achieve - good young players to fit a modern system, working on problem areas of the team. i had faith in the project(s). but for the life of me i couldn't see the wisdom in trying to build things around a daft beanpole pisshead and a mediocre winger, at the expense of lovely technical footballers like meireles, aquilani and maxi - imperfect as they are.

and you know what i thought? of course you do - if only benitez had had this opportunity to really nail those top targets that slipped away, time and again. IF ONLY.

Alves
Simao
Jovetic
Malouda
Pato
Suarez (luckily we got him in the end)

it'll always be something i feel we've been denied, a chance to really, properly, show what he could do.

You're coming across as seriously deluded mate. It doesn't matter a fuck if we created a shitload of chances, we only took one.

We've waiting for our team to click for fucking years, and there's still so sign of it. All talk, all hope, all expectation and when it comes to doing the business, we come up short season after season.

We can't just always point to the possession and attempts stats. It's embarrassing.

It's not delusional, in fact there's nothing wrong with it. The passing is good, same with the movement. The team is doing everything right up to the final touch or shooting chance. In fact we hit the woodwork 3 times in the game so the finishing is not atrocious. And then, individual mistakes (this time Pepe) are costing us since they have a greater importance. If we're put those chances away then Pepes mistake would just mean missing out on a clean sheet.

People do seem to have forgotten, Liverpool are re-building (yes again) and imho, it's a little delusional that people are thinking teams like Norwich should be brushed aside with ease. Man Utd only just managed it and Chelsea need a keeper sent off to do it. Yes, they got the 3 points but if one of the woodwork strikes went in, then so would have we.

i think your with/without Carroll argument is pretty spurious though: yes, points is points, but we've played great stuff and created shitloads without him (bolton, utd, today) so i don't think a lack of space for suarez etc is really an issue. i completely agree about going backwards without maxi and meireles and the style they encouraged, and to a certain extent about aqua as well.

really bad business last summer imo: the wrong positions priortised, and the wrong players identified. doesn't get much worse.
I certainly think thats the biggest issue yes. The day we sold Meireles I went apeshit and there was a bunch of bellends defending the decision for all kinds of reasons.
Simple fact is we sold Meireles, Aquilani and Cole, froze Maxi out of the team and have replaced them with Downing, Adam, Henderson. Its not good enough. I dont understand it. I dont fucking get the thought process in that.

Meireles, Aquilani, Cole, Maxi...

Downing, Adam, Henderson....

FUCK ME!!

i'm totally with you mate. i've not said it on here til now, cos it seems like quite a big statement, but last window was the first time in yearswhen i really felt we were moving backwards, not because of the players bought (obv rafa had some windows where we went backwards) but because the whole transfer policy seemed retrograde. under benitez (and usually under houllier) i always felt i could see what we were trying to achieve - good young players to fit a modern system, working on problem areas of the team. i had faith in the project(s). but for the life of me i couldn't see the wisdom in trying to build things around a daft beanpole pisshead and a mediocre winger, at the expense of lovely technical footballers like meireles, aquilani and maxi - imperfect as they are.

and you know what i thought? of course you do - if only benitez had had this opportunity to really nail those top targets that slipped away, time and again. IF ONLY.

Alves
Simao
Jovetic
Malouda
Pato
Suarez (luckily we got him in the end)

it'll always be something i feel we've been denied, a chance to really, properly, show what he could do.
To be quite honest I missed Benitez about six weeks into sadsacks reign when the likes of Poulsen and Konchesky were coming in.
And I actually hear you on the summer spending thing. I think I would always disagree regarding Rafa's spending because I still think he spread his money too thin rather than signing that ONE player we needed. But its true to say If Rafa was here and in charge with the squad we had last season and was given 60m to spend in summer with NO need to recoup......I dont think Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam would be here.

Im so pissed of lads.

That team that tore Fulham to fucking shreds near the back end of last season with Maxi and Meireles in it seems far removed from this team.

Maybe the new lads will all bed in eventually but I really wish wed stop doing daft things when the obvious things work.

I can't remember mentioning stats as it happens.

I just saw us play well, create plenty of chances, and then miss them. I'm fairly sure that's what I saw.

Have you got me confused with someone else? Depression can do that.
Nah, but you're putting a positive spin on what is ultimately a pathetic result at home to a newly promoted team.

I think the problem with all that is that we DIDNT play well. We started well and then for the next 70 minutes looked devoid of ideas.

The thing is, if the chances were put away during the first 20 mins and then we played as we did then people will be saying we just contained them. It's all a matter of spin and to be clinical when we're playing well (obv).

I think the worst thing of all the WORST thing was that this morning we were 2 points behind Newcastle and at 10 minutes to the end of thier game we were looking like we could go 4th today.
Then I looked at the fixtures and saw Norwich, West Brom, Swansea as the next three but after that Chelsea, Man City and Fulham and I KNEW that the next three games would be vital in getting us there or there abouts 9points to get us in the mix and give us something to believe in when we face Chelsea and Citeh. But we fucked it.
Newcastle are now just THREE points off the 'unstoppable' league leaders only one point behind the team who were gonna coast to the title. NEWCASTLE. And where are we? 4 points back just two points ahead of Spurs who have 2 games in hand.
We are just so predictably fucking monotously crushingly dissappointing.

After tomorrow the best we can hope for is to be 8 points off the top. Practically a quarter of the season gone and we are already 8 points off the top.
Im convinced im being punished because we were so awesome in the 80's, what other reason can there be for us being this shit for this long.
