Shelvey

The Sky interviewer seemed determined not to end it before Shelvey had topped himself, the poor lad. He relaxed a bit for the LFCTV interview and came over well.

He's just far too much of a liability to build a side around.

They said the same thing about Gerrard, and no, I don't think he has a chance to be like Gerrard and I don't remember Gerrard being nearly as clumsy with the ball, but it seems that if Laudrup + (whoever replces him next year) can iron out some of the issues, they'll have a pretty decent player who can only get better.

I've no problem with him celebrating like he did, and he shouldn't have felt like he had to apologise for it. We sold him. He left on good terms. There's was no animosity. I think most Liverpool fans are happy for him, that he's getting regular first team football. Why shouldn't he celebrate?

Unfortunately we as people, are always looking for things to moan about, and this is just another example. Haters, shut the fuck up, and stop being dicks.

There was a period in the second half where it seemed he was about to turn the game upside down, for the third time, bombing forward, making himself available, dictating and controlling play.

At that stage he reminded me of a young Stevie G.

Only in glimpses, but truth to be told, he did.

PS Was rather amazed to see him on the pitch for the 2nd half, but Laudrup said afterwards he never considered subbing him, despite of his first half blunders. He has got a lot of faith in him it seems, could prove vital for his progress as LTW also said.

I think Laudrup knew it was a big gamble but he also realised that if he'd subbed him it could have wrecked him, so on balance it wasn't that surprising a decision. His dynamism, however, only further highlighted how enervated Gerrard seemed. For someone who used to sulk whenever he wasn't given the remit of dominating the centre of midfield he seemed strangely disinclined to venture anywhere near there last night. Maybe he's tired but I hope Rodgers has the balls to tell him that just isn't good enough.

Shelvey made 2 horrible mistakes, but he also completely orchestrated Swansea's play tonight. If he can cut out those kinds of errors, he can be an excellent player.

I think it's very important for him that he is at a club where he is allowed to make errors. There are plenty of managers who would have taken Shelvey off yesterday, but it was great that he was able to stay on and work things out for himself. Rodgers was right - Swansea, and Laudrup, are an excellent choice for him right now. There's no doubt he's got a fair few errors to get out of his system, but once he has, I think he's got a great future ahead of him.

I actually liked it when he said he didn't want to celebrate but couldn't help it. He certainly has passion

Wish him well, out of the two I'm glad we kept Henderson

There's a good footballer there, he's 21. The bellendery and mistakes will be cut out at some point. He is going to be a very good player.

I suspect we may well regret letting him go.

Ironically he imo is the exact player we needed to bring on at 70 mins last night.

I hope we insisted on a large percentage cut when he moves on, that will put us in the driving seat if he does look like the stevie successor in a years time.

It's all a bit rose tinted lads. He's nothing like SG was at that age. Unfortunately, we need the real deal in central midfield, not wishful thinking. We won't regret this. Maybe once a year

I don't think he'll be another Gerrard. However, if you look at our midfield now, & the fact that Gerrard ideally needs resting every three games or after 70 minutes to keep him fresh, then he's better than any other option to come on for him, which makes letting him go seem a bit daft.

Last season like all the Liverpools were running and passing and passing and passing and then Shelvey would get the ball and try and make something happen and all the other Liverpools were like 'wtf Brendan didn't say to do that' and didn't know what to do and sometimes Shelvey scored and sometimes all the other Liverpools looked at him and thought 'you aren't a Liverpool you're a Shelvey get out'. And so did some fans.

Yes, fair points man, i hear you; it's just I think he was told this, and didn't want to be the back-up for 15 minutes a game, or 1 game a month
