Sakho

He's not without his flaws, nor is the system, but he's an infinitely better option than Lovren who just needs to go. Skrtel looks on the slide too, so lets see if we can get Sakho in and the slowly ease Gomez into the role too.

Lovely bloke, really a gem of a bloke. As a player, well, he perspires quite as well as anyone I've ever seen, but he's never going to be a great. He's a cult star in the making. But I'll delight in watching him get there. Easily the most objectively likeable character at the club.

Its a bizarre signing. £100k a week and new contract for someone who can hardly get a game.

Our club really does feel in a state at the moment.

I like Sakho but its a strange move.

I'm one of Sakho's biggest fans, but I'm surprised he signed. If I was him I would have told us to fuck off.

Maybe he hadn't been playing as he hadn't signed the new deal offered. That might be one explanation for Bag of shite Lovren getting a game ahead of him.

Has to be confident that he can get into the team, and dont underestimate loving the city and everything around.
Plus he probably knows Rodgers is living on borrowed time.

That bolded bit can be very significant for some players. Sakho had already given the impression that he's one of those players even before he signed this new deal. It's all good.

In rugby, if the captain isn't one of the heavy artillery in the scrum you'll also have a "pack leader" who organises them and gees them up. Carra did that kind of job for us at the back during his final successful spell at CB and I hope Sakho can become his successor.

I assume this is a contract renewal from the club board mainly rather than anything specifically to Rogers.

Rodgers suggested fitness concerns were one of the key reasons why Sakho had been left out of the team in favour of Dejan Lovren earlier in the season.

He said of the Frenchman, who signed a new five-year contract on Friday: “He was excellent in the week. The thing with Mama has been about keeping him fit and making sure he is at a peak level of fitness to play the games.

"That was always something that was a concern but he's worked very, very hard on that aspect of his game and I think he's come back into the team in the week and today and was excellent.”

Bemused by this. Sakho's never struck me as a slacker in training - I'm not aware of any stories about that - so I wonder why he's judged to have a problem getting to 'peak level'? I wouldn't have thought not playing him helps the situation!

Niggling injuries?

I thought he was very good on his return.

Reads the game very well. Does occasionally give you a heart attack but his distribution is generally excellent!

Plus, his attitude is delightful.

A smokescreen to cover politicking over the new contract, which fortunately he's now signed?
