Rooney

I think he'll go abroad, City apparently aren't interested , although I suppose Chelsea is a possibility. PSG would be my bet.

I wouldn't let him piss on me if I was on fire, NO!

won the epl and the champs league - what more do you want? the world cup?

Does that mean you'd take any player that plays for United.

In my opinion, Rooney is a good player who never quite made it to be as great as some had hoped. He'd obviously improve us, but he would probably be overpriced. It would never happen anyway.

if they're good enough to play for liverpool, will improve our squad and have the right attitude then I will take any player, regardless of where they have been before. there are plenty of examples of players moving from one rival to another and succeeding.

Thanks for letting me know.

Rooney was a lot more frightening, in my opinion, as a teenager/early twenties. As he's matured he's seemed to have lost that aggression and - I'm not sure how to say this - but a certain 'naivety' that he had. He used to do things nobody would dream of, and often it would come off. Now he's somewhat traded that in for a more consistent, but less exuberant and aggressive, style of play.

I think the term you're looking for is probably "youthful exuberance" - i.e. he's lost the vitality and youthful exuberance that made him special?

There's still a quality footballer there, but it's fair to say he needs a new challenge and environment.

We've no need for him, nor would he come here. I think he'll end up at PSG, too.

Ronaldo excepted, what United players have gone on to do well elsewhere? I'm sure I'm missing a few obvious ones, but none come to mind now.

Name the last time a player was transferred directly between Utd & Liverpool?

Actually don't. It was 1964 and it was Phil Chisnall. Fuck me even West Ham have won at Anfield in the interim. So to nail your post down properly, there are zero examples of players moving between Liverpool and Utd and succeeding in nearly 50 years.

Still think it could happen? Oh and that was before that cunt Ferguson turned up. You know the one, he who blocked the Heinze transfer. Yeah but he'd let Rooney come to us, no problem.

I think Rooney's problem is just that he's not much of a professional. Looks like he'd naturally struggle with his weight and has been spotted smoking in the past. Weird to think it, but he's probably only got 2 or 3 years left as a top class player.

Shagging granny prozzies will do that to you.
Throw in drinking and smoking...fuggedaboutit!!!

Rooney didn't peak at the age of 18. I don't want him here either but come on!

This season in the league: 20 apps, 11 goals, 9 assists
Last season in the league: 34 apps, 27 goals, 4 assists

Yeah, he's done nothing in the last couple years. What a chump.

He's been pretty instrumental in everything they've won over the last few years. It's not like he's a John O'Shea or a David May. I kinda agree that he's not quite pushed on that extra mile, but he's still been a phenomenal player.

read my original post - odds are zero.

the aim of this thread is to debate, admittedly a topic that is very hypothetical, but then again most threads in this forum are hypothetical.

Of course it's an exaggeration, but rooney at 18 was much more exciting, unpredictable & had the talent to become the best player in the world.

He's since become a great forward & an all round workhorse with a bonus slice of talent, but he's nowhere near what he should have been.

I suspect either his drive went when he started getting the huge wages, or fergie made him become exactly what his side needed & nothing more than that.

is that really right? he barely showed up against Chelsea in the final, and bar his goal in two CL finals against Barca - invisible too. He's stats, as posted by Keni, are excellent but I think the potential was there to be even greater. He had everything the cunt.

I don't think Rooney would suit us at all. He's a bit slow for one thing, and our new style of play requires nippy forwards. He's a good player but I have never viewed him as "world class" as the Mancs - and many in the media - would have us believe.
