Rooney

He's a terrific footballer who can change the face of a game with a moment of brilliance but as pointed out already the consistency hasn't been there for the last couple of seasons.
I think he's one of those players who needs to play week in week out to be at the top of his game on a consistent basis.

A manc mate who has fairly close ties with the club told me that Rooney took Colleen's younger sister death really bad and that his heart hasn't been in football since.
He is sure that Fergie has picked up on this in training and that's why he didn't start last Tuesday.
But as per usual the media went overboard with the usual bullshit without stopping to think for a minute.

Were Fowler or Carrager ever given a starting shirt no matter what for that length of time? You can't compare the two ...

You can compare him however to Owen - both boy wonders, both given the shirt continually and only one produced.

I'm not saying he isn't a 'top top player'. He is, but he's not world class, has never really fulfilled the potential most of us thought he had (bar Glock) and I think it will always be an issue of 'what if' with him ... If he had say Ronaldo's work ethic and desire to be the best, he'd have been in the same class as Ronaldo and Messi imo.

2004-05 – 17 goals, 4 assists
2005-06 – 19 goals, 14 assists
2006-07 – 23 goals, 14 assists
2007-08 – 18 goals, 14 assists
2008-09 – 20 goals, 12 assists
2009-10 – 34 goals, 7 assists
2010-11 – 16 goals, 13 assists
2011-12 – 35 goals, 6 assists
2012-13 – 14 goals, 12 assists

If those aren't the stats of a world-class player, I don't know what are. He's easily in the second tier of world-class players after Ronaldo and Messi, along with the likes of Falcao, Suarez, Zlatan etc.

I don't know what it is with Rooney, but when I see him and how is career will pan out I always think Paul Gascoigne.

You know when he stops playing football he will become an oversized beach whale, and probably rebel..

Terrific footballer, due to early start in his career probably has already passed his peak...

Still cant UTD selling him just yet..
