rafa back as manager - how does that make you feel?

Why Jules?

It was quite obvious that the players didn't like him and the owner gave him no time. The chelsea job is a poisoned chalice. AVB was a fool to go there this early in his career, but he can obviously make a team play attractive football.

Fabs, those bolded words are the crux of this. AVB may well be a very talented manager but his lack of experience and stature was a fatal handicap in a job that big, and the Liverpool job is every bit as big. However talented, he's simply not ready.

He also appears inflexible. That may change with experience, but all good managers are pragmatists, regardless of what their images might be. Hansen's critique of AVB's tactics early in the season was spot on, but he couldn't take it and kept making the same mistakes. And he really struggled with media pressure. Both issues would only be more problematic at LFC.

Andre Villas Boaconstrictingpants can't be our manager........Lion O' doesn't like his tie.

His biggest struggle was that Chelsea opted for the keep the older players option rather than letting him rebuild the squad and get some time to actually do that.
Lampard, Drogba etc etc

I somehow doubt our senior players would be texting Rafa at every oppurtunity aswell.

What you say is true, but it's not the whole truth. A big enough character would have found a way to overcome all that. AVB doesn't (yet) have what it takes. How could he, still a near-beginner in his early 30s?

Going back is sometimes a mistake but I'd take Rafa back in a heartbeat. We would have excelled with Rafa at the helm if we had a Sporting Director at the club would have acted as a buffer and would be responsible for scouting and buying players. He would have prevented many of Rafa's dud buys which would have allowed him to concentrate on football matters only.

Rafa was a brilliant tactician. He lost the plot when Paco left. They were a formidable team and we were hard to beat.

He needs to get back into the game and stay active to be relevant. Winning trophies is still the best cv in the market.
Let's not forget the absolute shite shopping of last summer, 80 million quid spunked, under the director of football bollocks we've gone for.
We could name plenty of shite purchases at the time of Rafa's reign, but he also did choose to bring in Alonso, Garcia, Reina, Arbeloa, Johnson, Torres, Kuyt, Bellamy, Agger, Skrtel, etc, and we would have had Alves and Villa for 15m each had we had the money at the time.
I wonder how Rafa would have spent the 80m without the DOF's interference?
I wonder if he would have okay'd the British signings we made last year?

Given that he happily would've parted with large sums of money for Barry and Downing during his time in charge... who knows.

downing?
worth noting rafa wanted silva and wasn't given the funds to secure him.

This is the stupidest argument in the world.

Did you know Steve Bruce wanted to sign Messi but wasn't given the funds to secure him ?

He should never have been sacked

the difference being if we had the money for silva it's actually likely he would have come given we were in the CL and had a spanish connect.

Silva at the time was valued at close to half the price he eventually went to City for. Same with Villa.
They were amazingly good value considering their age and talent.

But the point is he couldn't get them.

Hardly like silva was an unknown entity anyway.

Are we judging managers by who the wanted to buy or who they bought?

I'd swap Dalglish for Benitez because he's a better manager.

But I think we should look elsewhere.

You need medical help.

Heh, thats a bit to much mate.

Anyone who saw his Porto team play would have been impressed. The Chelsea old boys clearly wouldnt play for him, and everyone knew it was eiter him or them. Abramovitch opted for them, and as long as this continues Chelsea will stay where they are.

Who would you hire Jules?

Fair question. I have to preface my answer by saying I don't want Kenny out yet, but if we don't improve next season I reckon he'll walk anyway. After Kenny, I'd go for broke and target Mourinho. I know the problems some have with him as an individual, and to some extent with the style of football he's often got his teams to play, and I respect those views BUT he's a serial winner and that, frankly, is all I care about now.

I'd love Mourinho as our manager. Sadly I dont see us offering his kind of transfer budgets.

But, for those who think Rafa was obsessed with football.

Bielsa "el loco" apperantly watched Schalke 42 times on DVD before yesterdays Atletic win.

Come on Peter, give me his tranfer budget since he got the Real job.
Im pretty sure he spent less than us.

How much was spent on the team before he arrived though? Kaka, Benzema, Ronaldo, Ramos, Higuain, Alonso - to name a few, hardly a shit team to spend another 115 million euros on.

Angel Di Maria Benfica €25m 22
Pedro Leon Getafe €10m 23
Sami Khedira VfB Stuttgart €12m 23
Ricardo Carvalho Chelsea €8m 32
Mesut Ozil Werder Bremen €15m 21
Nuri Sahin Dortmund €10m 22
Hamit Altintop Bayern Munich Free 28
Jose Callejon Espanyol €5m 24
Raphael Varane Lens €10m 18
Fabio Coentrao Benfica €30m
23

Its less than us...
What hmm said, they're 6 points ahead Barcelona.
We all know he's a cunt, but anyway I dont really like football anymore so if he can make us win and beat the scum sometimes, That will do for me.
