Pre Match Pre Match - PSG (A) - Weds 20:00

Alisson has won the game for us, and all the credit goes to him, probably that was his best game in LFC shirt! The credit also goes to Jones the two CB's and Nunez who has contributed towards the goal, well taken shoot by Harvey. The worst player was Salah who thinks he is the king of LFC, his zero contribution and zero outcome were awful, and he should have been replaced at half-time! He just couldn't comprehend with the fact how useless he has been, it was a complete mental block for him to figure it out how ordinary he was and was marked out of the game! Slot changes were spot on. The return game will be hard too, and hopefully we will play better in that game. It was an excellent win, and good defensive display by all the players. Good Luck

Sounds like Salah had an off game but we are top of the league, and finished top of the CL league because of him. So I think we can let it slide. It is great that others stepped up when it mattered - Ali, Nunez & Harvey.
And Trent who had his best defensive display of the season despite the mayhem. Also Cujo and Endo. When Endo comes on you just think, we're going to get this done.

Think thats my biggest gripe with our transfer policy. A majority of it is either promising youth (future planning for 6 years ahead) or for the right now. There needs to be a middle ground.
Isn't everyone jealous of our squad? We have a star or very good player starting + at least a good to very good player as back up for every position.

I'm almost certain Vigil and Mo. will be here at least another 2 years so with average turnover (3-4 per season) I don't see a dilemma.

Everyone wasn't jealous of our squad though. They're saying it now to try and justify their own shite opinions at the start of the season. No one outside our fanbase believed we had a decent enough squad to challenge, let alone win the league. Salah will drop off, trent can't defend, robbo is aging, etc etc.

If you don't move forward you may as well be moving backwards. Salah and Virgil will be here for 2 years. And? Now is the time we should be signing that exciting 21 year old and developing them by either strong rotation or loaning out, so we're not dropping a beat. We should be actively changing bit by bit as we go; but we haven't and never did. Look at citys league dominance, regardless of accusations. They player by player, season by season, always looked to replace and improve. Kompany leave? Cool dias is just as good. Fernandinho goes? Hello rodri. Thankfully they've yet to find someone to replace de bruyne and they've put a lot of eggs in the foden basket (whos been atrocious this year). We aren't proactive in the market and it's such a basic thing to do for a club our size.

The likes of Kvara (if available) was the definition of forward planning. Olise last summer on a free would have been wonderful.

Our transfer strategy is lauded, and rightly so as we've not had many misses, so i've no doubt i'm talking shite. my one criticism of it is the lack of proactivity. We've clearly got a decent squad, but when you consider we're reluctant to spend until we have to, it's wild how well we do.

I didnt catch the game but were we poor because of PSG or in spite of PSG?

Just wondering if they're on another level which would make them favourites to progress.

In the first half, we had quite a lot of breakaway chances where we completely messed up the final pass. Mo, Jota, Diaz and Slobbers were all guilty. So id say it was a combination of us being shit and them playing well.

They were excellent, and for much of the game we couldn't play our way out of a wet paper bag. Nobody comes to Anfield as favourites to progress against us, catch yourself on.

I've only seen them twice, against us and City, but both times they looked devastating going forward: relentlessly attacking, pace everywhere, and so slick on the ball. It's been a long time since I've seen a better attacking team. But they can obviously be got at on the counter.

I think we're favourites to go through but not by much.

It's obfuscating a little bit to use City as a benchmark though - unless you're OK with us having 115 against us in a few years !

We clearly buy within our means - which isn't inconsiderable as the £100+m we bid for Caicedo showed. However to look at our recent record we've been doing as I suggested, adding a couple of top players a season.

Just listing the winners :

2016 - Mane, Gini and Matip
2017 - Salah & Robbo
2018 - Virgil, Fabinho & Ali (what a window!) and we also had Shaq and our biggest failure, Keita.
2019 - Elliott
2020 - Tsimikas, Thiago & Jota
2021 - Bajcetic & Konate
2022 - Diaz & Nunez
2023 - Gakpo, Endo, Szobo, Gravy & Mac (how can anyone complain about that season - it was awesome).
2024 - Zilch. Obviously because we spent so much the previous season (£190m FFS) and because Slot wanted to assess what he had.

We've actually had a very consistent strategy which has kept us the right side of PSR whilst also keeping us competitive at the very top, both in the PL and the CL. Though do note that big buying seasons tend to be followed by virtually nothing the next season.

I've also no doubt Slot has a kitty - he just opted not to use it yet and has been proven right (though he did add Chiesa and the Georgian). I don't think we need open heart surgery this Summer (assuming Virg and Mo sign new contracts, and if Trent does too we'll have an even larger kitty).

We just need to continue the trend of bringing in 2-3 high quality Starters, a couple of potential future stars and a couple of our U21s, each season. I think we can more than manage that and there is a lot to be said for continuity - as this season is proving to all of us (me included) that thought we'd just be battling it out for 4th.

Can't remember where I saw it or how to find it - but saw something saying that Konate incident wouldn't have been a foul or red card due to the player actually being offside if they'd gone back to check it.

I had to check a few videos but this is the moment. Really really close (his shoulder vs Konate's foot), I'd also add that as the passing foot is drawn back then he hasn't kicked it yet and the attacker could be further forward at the moment of impact. They took a long time so maybe this is what they were checking - drawing lines etc. Do they have to give the reason for the check? I don't remember seeing - 'checking for offside' but maybe that is only after a goal it is announced.

OK my screenshot was wrong ! Don't know how - I guess it skipped on quickly and I screenshot the wrong incident !

What is this supposed to depict?

Barcola being off? but where's the ball, in the air in the center circle?
Whether it's in the air or the centre circle (and you can see it) he's offside. Konate's Red would have been rescinded on VAR review.
