I'd agree with Sunny if I thought our current situation was likely to last into the longer term, but I don't think it will. A team which can play like we did for long stretches today, and like we did against Citeh, will come good.

You're probably right JJ. Something's niggling me though.

I know a great cure for those. Drop your kecks, drop your pants, put your feet on said haemorrhoids and stand up.

Apparently 2 bellends ran onto the pitch after the match and did the aeroplane to the Scum fans.

The NY Times seems surprisingly fair, compared to English reports. Iike the reference to goading - exactly right:

LIVERPOOL, England — In the buildup to the Liverpool versusManchester United match on Sunday, there was little talk of the soccer game; the eyes of the world focused not on the field but the spectators surrounding it.
The teams, the most successful in English soccer, have a long history — one that has, regrettably, been littered with the mocking of the dead.
Some Liverpool supporters regularly mocked the 1958 Munich air disaster, in which 23 people — including eight Manchester United players — perished after a European Cup game against Partizan Belgrade.
Likewise, after the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, when 96 Liverpool fans died, some Manchester United supporters have since regularly sung about it, calling Liverpool fans “murderers” — a reference to the English newspaper The Lying Rag’s erroneous claims that Liverpool supporters were to blame.
A report released on Sept. 12 exonerated Liverpool supporters; furthermore, it stated how the fans died because of the incompetence of the local South Yorkshire police force and ambulance service, with the full extent of efforts to cover up their mistakes highlighted. Fate would decree that Liverpool’s chance to remember the 96 at its home stadium, Anfield, would come against their fiercest rivals.
A week before, some Manchester United fans had sung “always the victims, it’s never your fault” — a song that is denied to have connotations to the Hillsborough disaster. Supporters claim the song relates to the issues between Luis Suárez and Patrice Evra. In those two was yet another combustible element to the occasion. Their prematch handshake took place, as expected, without incident, both players aware that something much more important was about to unfold.
Manchester United’s 2-1 victory Sunday and the tribute before it unfolded beautifully, poignantly and without incident. Ian Rush and Bobby Charlton, Liverpool and Manchester United’s respective career leading goal scorers, released 96 balloons to signify those who died at Hillsborough.
A stirring rendition of the club’s anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” was harmonized emotionally by 40,000 Liverpool fans before kickoff; cards around three of the stands spelled out “Truth,” “Justice” and “96.”
Though some complained about Manchester United fans singing songs during “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” there was little malice. Steps were taken to be careful over unsavory chanting, but it is a rivalry that should never be bereft of passion.
When the whistle blew for the first kickoff, the time was to turn an eye to the field. There was still an important 90 minutes ahead, particularly for Liverpool, which is experiencing its worst start to a league season since 1911. Not in 101 years had it failed to win the opening four league game.
But no sooner did attention move to the players, than it shifted toward the referee Mark Halsey. Liverpool had been excellent, playing a style of soccer unbefitting of its 18th-place league position, not allowing Manchester United near the ball.
Unlucky not to be a goal ahead, Liverpool found itself a player behind. Jonjo Shelvey of Liverpool and Jonny Evans of Manchester United both attempted to win the loose ball.
Though Shelvey’s foot was slightly raised from the ground, so too were Evans’s feet. Halsey opted to send off Liverpool’s player, but not Manchester United’s. It was the first time the home crowd soured.
Despite the red card, it had not been a vicious game. The card did not change the course of it, with Liverpool still outplaying its opponents, but ultimately it changed the score line.
The captain Steven Gerrard, whose cousin Jon-Paul Gilhooley at age 10 was the youngest victim of the Hillsborough disaster, put Liverpool ahead a minute into the second half, but Manchester United right back Fabio curled in a tying goal at 50 minutes.
Halsey took center stage once more when he denied Suárez a penalty kick after being fouled by Evans, then awarded one to Manchester United after Antonio Valencia fell weakly under a challenge from Glen Johnson. Robin van Persie scored the winner nine minutes from the end.
Booing at the end of the game was reserved for the performance of the referee, not the home side’s. Though Liverpool has yet to win in five games, there is much to be optimistic about.
The day ended on a sour note for Manchester United after it had worked so hard to pay tribute to its rivals, as well as win its fourth league game in a row.
A lot of their support sang “always the victims” after the match. This came after singing “where’s your famous Munich song?” during the game, in an attempt to goad Liverpool supporters into singing about the air disaster. But their actions should not detract from a day of remembrance for Liverpool. The city and football club might have lost the game, but they won so much more this month.

And what's all this "tributes were perfectly observed" bollocks? They fucking chanted all the way through them. Typical Man Utd respect then.

i was still kind of happy after the game, because of how well we played, but the combination of seeing all our missed chances again with fuckin mark "ive shaved my tache to lick my own arse" lawrenson is fuckin me right off

Typical Lawro on MOTD2, agreeing with Halsey and sympathising with 'Sir Alex,' the great tit.

About to say the same. I see MotD didn't show our loudest call for a penalty (the one were Agger was hauled down by Evans), but decided to show the one were Suarez goes down easily.

From the highlights it seems weird that basically all MOTD showed of the first half (the half Ginsoak said we dominated) was the red card - which, I have to agree with Rodgers, looked like a 50-50 with the same commitment from both players. Either they both get sent off, or neither do.

It's just that Jonjo's fucking nails and Evans had a cry about it that got him sent off, Evans clattered Shelvey every bit as much as vice versa.

Suarez should've had a penalty, but if he didn't make such a fucking meal of it he might of actually got the call. In real time, it looked like a dive, on the replay you can see the contact. He needs lessons from Stevie in how to make going down look convincing and believable, or "how to help the ref see that there was, in fact, marginal contact".

Can't argue with their penalty, Johnson was hot-headed, stupid and clumsy. It was no more a penalty than ours, but he made it easy on the ref to give the decision (just as Suarez made it easy on him to not give it by being overly dramatic).

A pisser of a result for sure, but from what I saw in the brief highlights, it seemed like a pretty decent performance. Suso looked like he did okay, Raheem looked promising.

Was Suso any good?

Even though we lost to the Scum, I reckon I might actually watch the full match back later

Christ, not the 'starshape' leap? That'll help! The refs are just idiots to buy into the slurs about Suarez. They should work for Injury Lawyers 4 U, that'll put those bastards out of business: 'You say you fell off a ladder? Judging from the CCT footage I'd say you fell off too easily. There was no desperate gravity-defying lunging at the rungs as you plummeted down to earth. Next! You slipped on some grease on a shop's floor? You seemed to go down very dramatically. Are you sure you weren't just leaning back too far whilst dancing?'

I think the actors in those ads may have exaggerated those accidents though Macca

Although he's weathered the odd accusation about diving, I wouldn't say Stevie has got a terrible reputation for it.

What he's good at is making the most of contact, that really is actually a foul but is the sort of contact that's just enough to put you off a shot without looking like a massive foul, and making it clear to the ref that contact has been made and it should be given.

If that makes sense?

Basically, what I'm saying is that it was a foul on Suarez, but it wasn't given because he made such a meal of it - Gerrard would have made enough of it to win the decision, without going overboard and doing the full retard like Luis

Yes, I see what you mean. Gerrard seems to get groans from us and no one else when he does his dives. I guess a good part is down to how much they're liked or disliked.

You're probably right JJ. Something's niggling me though.

I'm a little worried also . So far there's been lots of talk and very little "walk" . yeah there's been good passages of play and perhaps some bad luck but equally there's been some terrible play and shite results . The next 3 games are massive for me and could really set the tone for how the season progresses .

Although perhaps it's just taking me longer to come to terms with the fact that we no longer expect to beat the likes of Arsenal , Utd and city at home and despite all the millions spent , a club of our size is "rebuilding " like some shite lower table team . So here's a "fuck you" to all the useless shite that has managed and run the club over the last few years , and yes sadly i will have to include Dalglish in that .

I know he is a twat and I can't stand Lawro these days, but after seeing the replays, I agree with Lawro , I think Halsey got them right, apart from Evans should have gone too

A very good dominating performance today, but yet again there was not enough shown in the final third. I am finding it hard to see the difference between the way we played last season and the way we are playing this season. The only difference being that the whole team pushes up to the middle of the opposition half leaving our defence a little exposed. We did make United look terrible for most of the game and they looked devoid of ideas. All I can say is that our problem could be that old age issue of not being able to take on the lower teams like they do. Still only 5 games played so far and 2 points !!! - we may avoid relegation this season if we manage to keep close to the 15th team in the league.

You know that if saying fuck off to Kenny, and calling him useless shit, makes you sad... well, you don't have to do it.

Personally I think no matter what way Suarez goes down, he's not going to get a penalty. The referee shouldn't be looking at their heads. He should be watching their feet. Theatrics should be completely irrelevant.

It wasn't long ago when Kenny was manager and we were beating the mancs so easily the Kop were singing 'Happy Birthday' to Kenny whilst Ginsoak sat and fumed. Those were good days. Hopefully they'll come back soon with Rodgers.
Well said GK.
