I'm watching Vikings v. Browns

Browns are up 13 -10 thank to a great punt return just before HT.

I'm only watching in the hope that Favre gets hit hard a few times
Not a great game is it. Peterson is so much fun to watch though.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

Fucking bullshit call on a 64 yard TD by Calvin Johnson... called out of bounds on the 3 when he was no where fucking near. Twats.

Cowboys up 13-7 at halftime ...

My views so far ...

Romo has thrown behind a few players so far BUT I've noticed him take a sack or throw the ball away rather than do something risky. That's really unlike him.

The 3 RBs will give headaches to every defense in the NFL - what a wonderful problem to have, let's hope Garrett uses them well.

Defense looks ok, or Cadillac Williams is fantastic ... Not sure which one it is, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Miles Austin, if he can stay healthy, will be our only real big play threat from the WR slot
Fulltime: Cowboys win 34-21.

Final Thoughts:

Our defense looked a bit weak - but I'm still confident it's a top 5 defense. There will have to be an adjustment of how to take advantage of the double teams Ware will face every down.

First game without Owens, Romo throws for 3 TDs and a career high 353 yards on a mere 16 completions.

Each of our top 3 WRs had a TD catch of 40+ yards - Considering this was our weakest unit, it's a hopeful sign.

Special Teams have improved ... Getting that coach was a very smart move on Jerry's part. He screws up plenty, but this (& many recent draft picks) have been solid moves.

I still don't see more than a 9-7 season at best here but maybe we can surprise ...

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

Lions lose 45-27.

3 interceptions from Stafford. Denied a lovely TD via a bullshit call.

The 45 is shit obviously, but 27 is more than they scored in any game last season.

Ok, I'm making my first BIG call of the 2009/10 season. The Lions will win more games this year than last. There, I said it.

big loss for Da Bears ... Not the one against the Pack where Cutler threw 4 picks, but ...

Bears LB Urlacher out for season (AP)
Fucking hell. Wounder.

[shadow=red,left]NFL.com Wire Reports

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his dislocated right wrist -- a major blow for a team with high expectations.

NFL.com's Steve Wyche reports that the Bears have confirmed that Urlacher will miss the season because of damage suffered in the dislocation of his wrist.

Team spokesman Jim Christman told the Associated Press, "Brian did have surgery this morning and he is out for the remainder of the season." Urlacher had said in a text message to the Chicago Tribune that his "season is over."[/shadow]

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

A certain Irish friend of mine almost had the perfect night last night.

Raiders blew it at the end, played very well though. They may suprise some folks this year AFC West is garbage.

I knew they'd find a way to f#$! it up, amigo...

As long as they dominated, but never pulled ahead, it was always going to happen. And what the f#$! was that call to bring the TD back at the end of the 1st half. Catch, foot, foot = Touchdown.

I couldn't believe that Bills player ran that kickoff back... I was watching, thinking "What an idiot - He'd better not fumble, for his sake!". Couldn't believe it. Well, yes I could. Tom's back! 🙂

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

I actually thought running the ball out was a good idea. The Pats had 3 time outs left plus the 2 minute warning. There was 2:06 on the clock. If he kneels they save a time out after first down. If he had held on to the ball, that eats the 2 minute warning. He just failed to hold onto the ball.

That Tom Brady's not bad.

Yeah I caught the New England vs. Buffalo game... he had a great finish to the game.

I've started following NFL now since buying Madden 09 .... after playing it, can start to appreciate the different type of skill involved in the game.

Was reading up on the teams and narrowed down my team to follow down to 3:

Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Indianapolis

Was going to initially pick Buffalo but they appear to be fucking useless ever since the 90's .... I don't care if they won't make it to the Super Bowl but to not make the finals in 10 years 😱

I really liked what I read about Pittsburgh ... founded in 1933, and still in the hands of the founding family. Also, the club fans have a reputation as being the best in the league.... but the one thing that turned me off them was their 6 Super Bowls - did not want to appear to be jumping on the Steelers bandwagon because of that.

So I decided to settle on Indianapolis ... have a decent record of making the play-offs, have had reasonable success in their history. This was the club I was going to pick originally until I found out Payton Manning was their QB ... didn't want to be jumping on that bandwagon - but exploring all other options, decided to stick with these guys.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

First time I've watched Tim Tebow play today rather tan just see highlights... he's amazing.

That said, I can see why people are unsure how he'd do in the NFL.

Does make the college game kinda silly though, doesn't it..?

A player that most are saying may well end this season as the universally acllaimed greatest college player EVER, and he'd not getting any real consideration from the professional level...

How does that work? I've never come across that in any other sport.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

So I'm watching NFL again tonight.

I couldn't figure it out but I've got it tonight. That Johnny Mitchell fella in the studio - he's got a seriously dodgy sounding voice and I knew he reminded me of someone:

Good games tonight though. Im looking forward to Giants Cowboys in a bit.

Some fucking mad results tonight.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

Disappointing loss for the Cowboys (33-31).

Funnily enough, Tony Romo is the reason we lost today. Every TD they scored was because of turnovers. We ran over the supposedly 'best front 7' in football (200+ yards Rushing) and while the result is disheartening, it leaves me optimistic that a) the Cowboys CAN compete in the NFC east this year and b) we could make a playoff run (I wasn't sure if either).

105,000+ fans at a Football game though? That's nuts!

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

Looks like I'm heading to Minneapolis for some R & R next weekend and will be getting tix to see the Vikings and 49ers. Looking forward to it, since I've never been to an NFL game and my local CFL team (Winnipeg Blue Bombers) are getting embarrassed every week this season.
