Remy: Keen on Liverpool move

Skysports.com can confirm Liverpool have made a move to sign French striker Loic Remy from under the noses of West Ham and Tottenham.

New Reds boss Roy Hodgson has entered the race for the Nice ace and is hoping to beat his Premier League rivals to the forward's signature.

Remy is regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe after impressing at Nice over the last few seasons.

The 23-year-old, who has been likened to Thierry Henry, scored 16 goals for Nice last season and has broken into the France national team.

West Ham had been leading the chase for Remy after making a couple of sizeable offers for the striker, but they were unable to agree a fee with Nice.

However, they could now lose out on Remy with Liverpool firming up their interest in the player with a bid.

Liverpool's technical director Eduardo Macia is believed to have been tracking Remy for five years and he has recommended Hodgson make a move for the pacy hit-man.

The Reds are in need of a new striker as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the Europa League deadline with Fernando Torres currently on the sidelines, leaving David Ngog as the only available forward for the start of the club's European campaign.

Funds
Liverpool's financial director Philip Nash is believed to have raised the funds to enable the club to make their move as they look to win the race for the in-demand Frenchman.

Remy's agent, Frederic Guerra, has admitted he has spoken to Liverpool about a possible move and that Remy would be keen on a switch to Anfield.

"Yes, Liverpool are interested in Loic and Loic is interested in Liverpool," Guerra told skysports.com.

"There has also been interest from West Ham and Tottenham and it is now up to Nice.

"Loic has always said he is keen to play in England and Liverpool are a massive club.

"I believe if Loic comes to England he will be a massive success.

"He is like Thierry Henry, but I believe if he comes to England he could be even better than Henry.

"He is a sensational player, he is very strong, very quick and two-footed. He is the complete player and Liverpool would love him."

I've never seen him play but I've decided he's amazing. Let's get the deal done.

Ditto.

I've also earmarked Jonjo Shelvey as possibly my new favourite player, a position he will keep unless I decide I hate him.

i bought him on fifa 10, and whilst he had a strong scoring record and pace to burn, he never truly settled and put in some yakubu style laziness.

Of course this was for real betis at the time

Yes I agree. I've seen enough of Jonjo on youtube to conclude that he can replace both Mascher and Gerrard if they leave.

Nice of his agent not to put too much pressure on his shoulders. 'Better than Henry' FFS!

Still, at least it looks like we might be signing a striker. And not James Beattie either...

I wouldn't worry about Wenger not signing him, it has depended a lot on the price according to my Arsenal mate.

Great signing if true. With Torres, Jovavnovic and possibly Remy. We have 3 very pacey strikers.

I havent seen this Remy guy nor have I seen Banega to much. However I am encourage by being linked with younger hungry players (given that they are as good as their rep says) rather than older moneyhunters....

Remy sees red
It is now imminent: courted by several teams of the kingdom, Loïc Rémy scheduled to fly to England on Saturday and land at ... Liverpool ! Subject to a transfer fee of 12 million pounds (just over 14 million euros), Nice striker prepares to sign a contract period of five years for the Reds. A club "legendary"according to the person

His agent reckons he'll be a bigger success than Henry, is that even possible?

This isn't going to end well is it?

Is being the new Henry better than being the new Zidane?

Some other sites are claiming a deal has been agreed,

12,5 mill £. 7,5 mill £ upfront.

i'd quite like another player signed so i hope its true.

even if it is underwhelming

The "new Henry"? Underwhelming?

In all seriousness, he sounds like perfect back-up for Torres. Isn't that one of our most pressing needs?

This transfer window might just turn out alright you know.

Great pace, can play on either wing or upfront. Scores goals, direct, creates goals and is a young up and coming striker.

If thats not a good signing then fuck it.

Hodgson said yesterday that we are being linked with players that he hasnt even heard of, so I take these Remy rumours with a pinch of salt. Or maybe I should take them with ice.

This isn't just a hack's wild imagination - there are actual quotes from both the player and the agent talking specifically about us.

Reports suggest Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Nice striker Loic Remy who will join on a five year contract.

Nice will pocket €15 million approximately £12.5 million though only £7.5 million will change hands initially with the remainder paid in installments.

The 23-year-old is rumoured to be arriving in Liverpool on Saturday to undertake a medical.

Remy has already gone on record about a possible deal telling Nice Matin: "Liverpool is a legendary club. I am very excited by the thought of playing there. It has a magnificent stadium and a fantastic public.

Nice coach Eric Roy said of the player: "I absolutely rely on him but we have resigned ourselves to his leaving.

"We had a verbal agreement that he would spend two seasons at Nice so it was always likely he would leave if an offer came along that matched what the club expected."

A new signing... wooohoo! And he's a fast attacking player! More woos and hoos.

Let's hope that if we sign him he doesn't turn out to be like our other new Henrys Babel and Cisse.

On the subject of Shelvey, looks like a classy player but I do remember some posters on a Charlton forum saying he was slow. Not the end of the world like, but it'd be nice if he does turn out to be pretty mobile.

Im excited --

Id be worried if Rafa was still in charge but i reckon Hodgson will get the young players flying..

i think Babels career would have been very different if he signed for Arsenal...
