Just lies today I fear - and it's very quiet, maybe the hacks are making party plans for the weekend instead of dreaming up BS.

Moratti appears enthusiastic with the idea of landing the player, but was eager not to uncover the blue prints in terms of how the club will move for Mascherano.

But he did make clear that Benitez's feelings towards the midfielder would influence any subsequent decision to sign him.

"I know that he has always played well and he has a strong character. He is intelligent," he told Il Corriere dello Sport.

"But, we have many players for the role who are both good and clever. We will see if he is needed on a technical-tactical level.

"Does Moratti want him? We will see. we have to see if he is needed by Benitez and if there is a chance to get him."

Huntelaar has been linked with a move to the Premier League since January, when West Ham were known admirers but he will want to set his sights a little higher now.

Liverpool are in the market for a striker, as are Tottenham – who have just qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Huntelaar would give Spurs’ side much needed experience of European football but Roy Hodgson could turn to the Dutchman should Fernando Torres leave Anfield this summer.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Galliani dropped a hint that a move to England could be on the cards for Huntelaar, with Podolski a good alternative.

“Podolski will arrive only on one condition – Huntelaar will be sold to the Premier League and this will open up new economic scenarios for us,†he said.

It is understood that both Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson are monitoring Richards despite the fact that Vedran Corluka and Glen Johnson have been highly praised for their own performances in the right-back position at White Hart Lane and Anfield respectively.
Richards is thought to retain a value in the £10-15 million bracket, a figure which would represent a sizable outlay for both Spurs and Liverpool.

Not really transfer news as such, but:

Roy Hodgson has admitted he is working hard to overcome the "disenchantment" that some of Liverpool's key players are currently feeling.

The Anfield futures of captain Steven Gerrard, Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano and star striker Fernando Torres have been the subject of much speculation following a disastrous last season for the Reds.

They finished a worst-ever seventh in the final Premier League table to miss out on a lucrative place in the Champions League and the campaign ended with the departure of manager Rafael Benitez.

Former Fulham boss Hodgson was appointed last month and made the retention of key players his number one priority.

However, with the first leg of a Europa League third qualifying round tie now just two weeks away, Hodgson has revealed that some players are still struggling to put last season's disappointment out of their minds.

"We are working very hard on making certain the players we have at the club, who you would call the 'good players', are going to be with us for next season," said Hodgson.

"The board are working very hard in that area. Some players are a bit disenchanted after what happened last season and we want to make sure we get that enchantment back."

Let's just hope Torres is not one of the 'disenchanted'.

We know that he is though...

This one definitely looks to have a bit more substance to it :

From the Offal :

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is ready to sign French striker Loic Remy in a £12million swoop.

Hodgson has decided to move quickly in a bid to beat Spurs and West Ham to the young Nice attacker. He wants the deal tied up in the next few days. Remy has been chased by the Hammers for weeks but their failure to agree a fee has left the door open - so new Kop chief Hodgson is now pushing through with an offer. Tottenham chief Harry Redknapp is also considering Remy as he looks for a new striker but he would have to sell first so cannot join the auction yet.

Hodgson would like Remy to fly in to Merseyside immediately and sign on before the deadline for the Europa League. The Anfield board are willing to give Hodgson cash. This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club

From The Echo :

FRENCH hot-shot Loic Remy has opened the door to a possible move to Liverpool. The 23-year-old Nice striker said last night he would prefer a move to the Reds after his club’s chief executive, Patrick Governatori, claimed that Liverpool and Tottenham had both made bids of “between 14.5million and 15.5 million euros.†Anfield officials said that talk of a bid is premature, but confirmed that Roy Hodgson is an admirer of the French international and has been tracking him.

Remy, who has one international cap for France, spoke about his future after a training session yesterday and said he had “never hidden his desire to play in England.†He added: “It will be a choice between two clubs with big futures. “I have a slight preference for a prestige club like Liverpool, even though Tottenham are also very, very interesting.†“Nothing has been decided. Wherever I play, I'll have to fight and work hard to win my place.â

Liverpool will discover their Europa League third qualifying round opponents on Friday as speculation continues to surround their star players.

The Reds may be without Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano for their qualifier at the end of this month but manager Roy Hodgson is determined to make sure that situation does not become permanent.

Over the past six months both players have hinted, in different ways, that their futures could possibly lie elsewhere.

Torres has spoken of the need to bring in four or five quality players, while the Argentina captain has stalled on signing a new contract while his agent talks up the chances of a reunion with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan.

Leave after World Cup duty means Mascherano and compatriot Maxi Rodriguez do not come back to training until four days before the first leg of the third qualifying round, with Liverpool discovering their opponents in Friday's draw in Nyon.

The Spain contingent of Torres and Reina return as world champions - along with beaten Holland finalists Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel - but not until after the first leg has been played.

And the 62-year-old welcomed new signing Milan Jovanovic, 29 – the Serbia attacking midfielder whose free transfer from Standard Liege was set up by Benitez before his departure – to the club’s Swiss training camp yesterday.
Hodgson added: ‘I’m very pleased we have got Milan. He looks a very keen and enthusiastic player, and it’s good to have players who are desperate to play for the club.
‘I was not responsible for signing him but I’ve seen him a lot during my time at Fulham and we were watching him.
‘He’s a natural wide player who can play through the middle. He’s more of an attacking winger than a wide midfielder and he’s a goalscorer.
‘He scores goals for club and country, and I’m sure we’ll get a lot of use out of him.’

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both fighting it out for Ipswich Town prodigy Connor Wickham after both Premier League clubs reportedly bid £8 million for the 17-year-old. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are acutely aware of one the country’s emerging talents but Harry Redknapp and Arsene Wenger have started the bidding. (Daily Mail)

Nemanja Vidic’s Manchester United future is once again the subject of speculation amid rumours Real Madrid are ready to reignite their long-term interest in the Serbian with a £25 million bid for the player. The towering centre-half is perpetually linked with a move to La Liga, but AC Milan, and perhaps rather tenuously Manchester City have also been linked. (Daily Mail)

Manchester City have had a £17 million bid for Lazio left-back Aleksander Kolarov accepted, and are on the verge of taking their summer spending to a staggering £75 million. The Serbian international had been linked with Real Madrid and Chelsea. (Daily Mail)
Meanwhile Manchester City outcast Robinho could be in line for a shock move o Shakhtar Donetsk with the Ukrainian club ready to pay £20 million. (Daily Mail)

Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano has welcomed interest from Tottenham Hotspur and reiterated his admiration for the Premier League. The Brazilian has 12-months left on his contract has also been coveted by Manchester United. (The Shite)

AC Milan have informed enquirers that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is for sale, alerting Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Manchester United to his availability. The Serie A giants want to jettison the Dutchman in order to fund their bid for Manchester City target Edin Dzeko. (Daily Mirror)

Aston Villa will make an £8 million bid for Dinamo Zagreb striker Mario Manduzukic and will allow Emile Heskey to leave the club amid rumours of Celtic interest. (The Shite)

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is closing in on Manchester United youngster Danny Welbeck. The 19-year-old could move to the Black Cats on a 12-month loan deal. (Daily Star)

Manchester City have put a £10 million price-tag on midfielder Stephen Ireland with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Sunderland all monitoring the want-away Eastlands star. (Daily Mirror)

Fuck Man City. They're going to have a whole new starting XI when the season starts.

Also re: Hodgson's comments about Jovanovic, sounds like Benitez and Cisse.

Until we get the cash for Mascher.

Well they will be similar, cos both managers didnt sign the player. However, his comments about Fulham wanting him surely means he likes him as a player.

Is Remy any good? BM??
[/quote]

Never seen him play, I'm afraid.

Just wiki'd him, and his goalscoring record looks streaky rather than consistent. I guess we'd just have to hope his good spells coincided with the periods when Torres is (inevitably) injured.

Where will Boateng play from them? CB or LB?

I'm pretty sure Benitez said the same about Cissé.

Doesn't mean it'll turn out the same way though. And at least he was free...

Heh, remember when Benitez also said that Valencia wanted to sign Cisse.

And we might not have a leftback for the europa league.

By the way, where did spurs' money came from?

If we spend £15 million on Remy, Hodgson will need a slap. His record is shite, its less than one in three.

Cheers mate, never even heard of him, I'm not that big on French football these days though.

It's not that straightforward. Wasn't Torres' record about 1 in 3 in Spain?

(That's not to say Remy=Torres, obviously)

I would have thought 1 in 3 was not unreasonable

Hodgson said yesterday that we are being linked with players that he hasnt even heard of, so I take these Remy rumours with a pinch of salt. Or maybe I should take them with ice.

Zabaleta will provide decent competition there.

Well, I've seen him play a few times. And I have to say I've been quite impressed. Great pace, direct and know where the goal is. He's only 23, and was a bit part player before he moved to Nice.
In his last two season there he has scored 26 goals in 69 games.

The season 09/10 was his best with 15 in 35 games, not bad for a team that finished 15th in the league.

There is a reason Arsene Wenger has been an admirer for a long time, and Arsenal have been linked for a move forever. My Arsenal mate thought they were going to sign him this season, but they got Chamakh on a free instead.

Good signing, with the potential to be great. For 12 mill £ I would say YES. Reminds me a bit of Henry tbh.

Don't like the sound of Wenger having been an admirer for a long time though - makes me wonder why he didn't take the plunge and sign him. He was sniffing around Babel for ages before we went in for him, and look what happened there.
