Serbian international Milan Jovanovic signs three-year contract with Liverpool

From correspondents in Brussels, Belgium
February 10, 2010

Serbian international attacking midfielder Milan Jovanovic signs for English Premier League giants Liverpool on a free transfer from Belgian side Standard Liege.

The 28-year-old will join Liverpool in June this year after he signed a three-year contract on Tuesday and will earn a reported $4.71 million a year.

Jovanovic, who turned down an offer from Spanish side Real Madrid last year because he didn't think he would get enough playing time, had also been a target for Serie A duo AC Milan and Juventus as well as Valencia.

Jovanovic, who impressed as the Serbians reached this year's World Cup finals and in Standard Liege's two successive title wins, was recently named the Belgian league's player of the season.

Mark this down...

This Jovanovic lad is going to prove to be an excellent free signing for us. He'll score double figures next year, and prove to be great back-up for Torres.

I'm basing all of this on absolutely fuck all.

Yay. Free.

How many freebies have we now in our first team (apart from SG & JC)?

Maxi, Milan, Voron (oh he is gone), Degen?

Can we hold you to this quote this time next year?

If you think I'll remember this bold prediction tomorrow morning you're wrong. But I'm sure someone will bookmark this thread right now just to string you up with later in case things don't work out.

I hope you're right, for the record, and I have even less knowledge of the player to try and contradict your claim with. So I'll jump on the bandwagon early with you.

I hope he's better than the last Milan we had.

Ok strikers more or less sorted. Now to that troublesome left wing spot...

Erm, after this we need back up goalie, left back, left wing, as we do not seem to have world class players apparently.

Time for one of us to be worried as I agree with on all this, and have similar evidence to back it up.

It seems some decent clubs were courting his signature (even if he was available on a free), so I'm happy enough.

We have to be realistic about our back-up for Torres - he has to be decent enough to see us through when Torres is injured, but not brilliant enough to be royally fucked off about spending most of the season on the bench (with any luck).

His premature hairloss is a great worry.

Not many top players start to lose their hair that early.

It's not a good sign

Rooney does ok. Zidane did ok. Perhaps it's a sign of greatness.

Hmmmm. I'm not convinced.

Ireland too. He seemed to get good when he shaved his head.

It didn't really work out for Sibierski
