Omar Marmoush

We need to get him ASAP, he will be good for us plus he is 6ft too, so physically he should be fine.

Sign him in January and let him take the free kicks instead of Trent to piss him off some more.

Direct ones for sure. Excluding England, he's only got 1 goal from a free kick in the last 4 years, but I'd like to think we'd be signing a player for 60m for more than just free kicks this time.

Marmoush looks like a potential Jota replacement – if we decide that Diogo is simply too injury-prone to rely on. But he is not a real #9 profile and if that’s what we’re after then Sesko indeed looks like the best bet, even if he’s not a finished article.

Or if Slot wants to take us in a different direction with a Firmino-style false 9, then I think Brighton’s Joao Pedro looks very interesting. My spidey senses are tingling with him:

Brighton will ask for crazy money for Pedro.... If Salah stays and we go for Marmoush then I think DJ goes, I really can't see us going for #9 unless someone else goes.

Considering how tight the owners are, if DJ and Salah leave, I think the replacement could be Marmoush and Jonathan Davids (JD). Where the net cost could be close to 0

It’s a myth that Michael Edwards does bargain bin shopping. Not going for the most expensive/overhyped option is one thing, but we will not sign a player in a key position just because they are out of contract or can be had for cheap.

I was going to start a thread yesterday along the likes of PL transfer targets.

He’d be right up there for me

Anyone of Sesko, Gyokeres or Joao Pedro will cost “crazy money,” question is who will be truly worth it. Marmoush will be cheaper, but I don’t see him leading the line in the same way - he could be still worth it for his offensive production and opportunism, but we will need a #9 who can do all the “system player” things as well as score. Particularly after Salah leaves - Mo is currently the closest thing we have to a consistent outlet up front.

Well, is cheap worth it when he's away for 6 weeks every other year?

Also, João Pedro can't be that expensive.

Zero point in talking about replacing mo, as we can't. We're beat off trying to find players that maximises the system slot wants to play. There's going to be a sizeable drop off from the RW position, the only hope is a dramatic increase from the LW and CF. LW so far seems capable of picking up some of the slack.

That's why I don't think any idea of us returning to a Bobby-type in the 9 makes sense, as someone suggested above. Bobby was enabled by the fact he had two goal scorers playing either side.

When Mo goes, we're going to need a top class scorer somewhere in the front three and it's most likely going to be through the middle.

Well Mo. is going to sign a new 3 year deal anyway so whoever comes in is only coming in as, primarily, cover. In which case we'll go for the youngest and most versatile.

Well, Joao Pedro looks bit more like a natural scorer than Bobby, but he is similar in that he likes to drop deep, engage in physical duels and combine with his strike partners. It’s a pretty rare and valuable profile.

He sure is, he's more of grifter than Firminho.

There really is a lack of top quality number 9’s in the world at the minute - everyone seemingly wants to be a winger.

I have sympathy for them - in years past they almost always played as part of a strike pair; leading the line all by yourself if tough. There is so much they are expected to do nowadays besides scoring.

And you’re right, now is the age of the winger/wing-forward.
