There was odd links to him with Chelsea. Chelsea fan in work thinks they funded the 50% third party payment and had planned to take him from Benfica but pulled the plug as not to involve themselves in a murky third party fine.
It think the Partizan chairman was quoted to say that Markovic had initially signed for Chelsea will go on loan to Benfica.
Sorry, I got side tracked there. I think it's harsh to say he hasn't 'trained on' since he left Benfica. He was ripping up the Portuguese league and helped Benifca to a European cup final and he's only 20. He has moved country 3 times in as many years. The talent is there too in my opinion.
Chelsea could have signed him for £12 mil but Mourihno vetoed the deal and he came to us for £20mil instead. As much as I despise the cunt I would trust Mourinho's opinion on a player over our transfer committee's, Rodger's or FSG 8 days a week! Did Mourinho veto the deal? Did he not rate him or was he stocked in that position? We aren't privy to this info. Did Chelsea step aside due to third party allegations? Did Lazar pick us in a hope he'd progress better here? That also sounds feasible. Mourinho has sold Mata (an excellent player) and Kevin De Bruyne (who I really rate). Chelsea are a club who are in a position to do this. Mourinho passing on Lazar doesn't deflect from his talent.
He might have impressed more if he hadn't been played at full back. No wonder we can't defend when Rodgers tries to shoehorn so many attacking players into the team to make up for the shit strikers he's bought (Sturridge aside though with his injuries he's fast becoming a waste of time as well).
