I'm quick to give him abuse when he deserves it, but he played very well yesterday and deserves credit for his performance.

The thing with someone like Lucas is, if the team plays well around him, it will raise his performance, if the team doesn't play well, he can't change the game and unfortunately for him because he plays in the middle of the park his mistakes are notable and he therefore gets singled out.

People shouldn't get overly carried away with 'he bossed the midfield against the champions' lark, yes, he played well, he deserves credit. But it should also be noted that Utd played the wrong midfield yesterday. Lucas always struggles against a more physical opponent, Anderson or Fletcher yesterday would have made a huge difference for them.

Although I'm really not trying to take anything away from Lucas' performance.

Exactly

I thought he had a good game yesterday and is showing signs of improvement. The problem with him is people can't see through the many many shite performances he's put in. He has played better this year but some people can't see through their opinion of him to give him credit when it's due.
[/quote]

young players like Lucas will improve. he's 22 and probably still a few years away from being able to be consistantly better but he's showing signs of improvement and lots of players have improved under Rafa. The problem is there will be poor performances until he is at the right standard which is very high but I think he has the potential to get to that standard we expect

I hope fans can get behind him so he doesn't feel pressured or like he wants to leave or something because if so all that hard development work will go to waste. I hate some of our stupid fans

this will all be moot when aqualini is fit anyway...

unless it is masher rather than lucas rafa drops, and let's face it it's not beyond the realms of possibility is it?

It's interesting to see how a lot of people are saying Fletcher would have made all the difference to United's midfield. Now I'm not disagreeing with that at all, but I just want to make the point out that Fletcher is 25 now, whereas Lucas is just 22.

I wonder how many people would have said the Fletcher of 3 years ago would have the made all the the difference to United's midfield?

Masher and Lucas have both had poor starts to the season, but one of them is a top player, and one is rubbish so it's not difficult to work out who should be dropped

Problem is, Masher will leave after this season, so we could find ourselves stuck with Lucas in the side again next year too

He isn't good enough to play for any side with title ambitions

Don't worry we will get a beast of a CM to partner him next season.

I think Gerrard will drop back to a traditional CM role after the world-cup. He can be so much better than that Xabi watshisface lad we had some time back....

Lucas had a great game. Delighted for him and its funny how some still do not want to give him credit. Yes he was poor in previous games this season but he was great yesterday. Hopefully he can take confidence from this and turn a corner in his Liverpool career. I'm not advocating Lucas be in the team week in week out but he isn't as bad as many make out. He played well so let's support him until Aqualani regains full fitness.

it's quite funny that we have three players with good technical ability, who should be starting when fit, who are made of glass and whose name begins with 'A'

It's not funny, it's coincidental

And Aurelio is an average left-back defensively

Still, nice to see Agger back and playing well, hopefully Purple Aqui can bring us something fabulous too, even if it is only seeing less of Lucas in the first XI

I really like aurelio but I'm getting more and more desparate to see him start at left back because I'm begining to dislike insua who I don't think is very good at all.

how is he good? what does he do that is good? does he attack competantly? it was alarming the ease at which he was getting dragged out of position yesterday so he isn't exactly accomplised at defending either.

Which is the same as 'not good' really

We need a new LB

Again

yep, but we wont. maybe not even next summer.

i reckon he does everything well enough apart from running fast. he'll improve as well, apart from the running fast. and being taller.

it's a pity that 8 miilion doesn't buy you a good left back these days.
aurelio is our best left back and was free but can definately be improved upon. I thought the lyon left back was absolutely fantastic, we should bid for him in the summer.

if we were to land the lyon left back it would lesson the need to get left midfielder who will surely be at a premium.

We sold one for £4m.

And the reason we don't have a good left sided full back isn't money. It's bad choices.

I don't particularly rate Insua too highly at the minute, he may turn into a good left back but he isn't yet. Aurelio is decent. Yeah, we can improve there, but again, as with this summer all I want is another goal threat in the team, I don't think it's a huge priority.

i don't think warnock is what we need but it's clear as day that dossena was a bad choice.

is warnock doing THAT well these days? I can't say I've being paying that much attention to him now but when he was here he was fucking rubbish.

Think he means Riise, but yeah, Warnock's better than Insua.

I'm all for giving youth a chance but given Aurelio sometimes defends like a spaz, we really need a solid, defensive LB, who can slot in when needed. A left-footed Arbeloa would be great.

I was actually think about arbeloa. it's a pity we couldn't hold onto him, a very underrated player? is he starting for madrid?

you lot are judging Insua in a game he's too young for, it doesn't mean he's not that good. he is developing and has had difficult games

Again, your being kneejerk writing him off and we dont need any more left backs

We don't need another left back
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome

Warnock has experience but that's it, he isnt that good and he wants to play first team football which he wouldnt get at Liverpool whereas Insua will be happy to sit on the bench especially in games he's not old enough for. he is only playing instead of Aurelio because of injuries, what part of this can't you and the others understand?
