he had his best game in a red shirt but best player? no way.

that mistake towards the end when he flapped in his own box, the rugby try kick when it landed to him stood out for me.

but saying that the game will have done his confidence a world of good. we should sell him now whilst his value is as high as it ever will be

delighted for the lad.

what a better way to respond to critism by the fans than to completely dominate against the UTD midfield.

now i only hope the lad can keep it up!

He drove the game on for 90 minutes. He did the right things when it counted, and stood out a mile for me.

Fuck it, they were all superb. Hopefully this will shut all the whingeing, moaning cunts on this site up for a few days.

This game suits him. Its when we need to go at teams that he will suffer as his lack of passing ability and vision will be exposed.

I wish.

We may sit here and complain about the Mascher and Lucas partnership but it's much better than what United had today.

Had a great game, but yossi wass class. Opened them up all game. Kuyt, masher and aurelio also awesome

It still remains our weak point....A soft midfield partnership, that is not very creative under pressure. Carrick and Scholes as a partnership never had the legs to put them under pressure.

When i saw united's midfield i was quite confident of getting a result.....

Bit if an overreaction there, Ryan. He was superb today but no way was he the best player on the pitch. I would give that to the Blond God.

Their defenders were absolutely shit scared of him. Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand - you could see the fear in their eyes when he got the ball. They were psychologically scarred by the run around he gave them in the previous meeting. I have never seen a Liverpool player do that to those cunts.

Wanted to say exactly the same thing but couldn't quite bring myself to do it.

Yossi was the best player on the picth today.

Lucas was just on the level below him with Carra and possibly Mascherano.

I'll say one thing about Torres - first 20 he looked absolutely pissed off to be on the pitch; was whining and moaning about every knock he got and looked well capable of throwing in the towel. Saw Kuyt in his ear and about 5 minutes later he clattered Scholes - never stopped running or chasing after that. One of his best non-man-of-the-match performances in a Liverpool shirt.

On Lucas - his tackling in the first 30 minutes was clean, crisp and precise. Walked past, around and over Scholes, kept going forward and his ability to fine a support player first time in tight positions is very good. He kept us ticking over very nicely and he kept running for the full 96 minutes. It's not the first time he's played very well but, considering the opposition and the occasion, probably his best performance for us.

Lucas was impressive today... not the best player out there... but credit where credit is due, the lad stepped up.

He's been under heaps of pressure to perform, and he stepped up today against our biggest rivals.

Very happy for the lad.

He was able to get forward more given the absence of Gerrard.

*yawn*

Now we'll have to suffer the 'he was MOTM against utd' (even though he wasn't) line over and over again, as he blunders through his next 10 games playing like a flid.

GYAC, one game in 10 when he isn't totally shit does not make him a good player

Hold on a minute....

apart from the terrible shot into row Z and the 5 fouls in dangerous positions he gave away in the second half he played well, that was probably his best ever game for us and he wasn't shit by any stretch but mash was the boss in midfield, kuyt ran his fucking legs off and Yossi was excellent.

You must be high on adrenaline Ryan.

Not specifically at you but lets figure out where the "Masch was MOM" theory has come from. He was utterly anonymous for the first 25 minutes other than a foul and losing possession. When the mancs started to come into the game more he became more of a presence and he was excellent for 20 minutes and again for 20 minutes in the 2nd half when they were having a good period.

The comparison is Lucas was very good in that first 25, constantly keeping us moving, getting forward and finding players in space. When the mancs got themselves into the game he continued to be heavily invovled but now on the defensive side. By no stretch is he as good a DM as Mascherano but he was a big influence on the game in attack and defence which is something Mascher wasn't and, largely speaking, is incapable of.

I don't think anyone got close to Yossi but on the next rung down it was Lucas and Carra with maybe Mascher at their level or just below.

As Brendan says this doesn't make him a good player it just means he's capable of being a good player. But today he was good.... very good and didn't drift out of the game for long periods.

He gave away far too many free kicks in good positions to be considered man of the match.

Lucas was a lot better today and credit where credit is due - he did it in a big game and he did it without someone like Alonso or Gerrard to dictate the play alongside him. That, aside from being gash on too many occasions, has been one of my main criticisms.

Well done to him and well done to the team overall. I have to say I took a lot of pleasure out of todays game.

Masher was excellent for "20 minutes in the 2nd half when they were having a good period."

Erm, isn't that the point?

Agree with all of that.

Lucas had a good game, good energy, harrassed the United midfield all game and drove into the United half to lay on the through ball for N'Gog.
