None of us are really that bothered about the wages Lucas earns as all the players are on stupid wages and as much as supporters used to think they paid the players wages by going through the turnstiles the reality is that tv rights and sponsors dwarf the fans contributions these days. Lets face it all the players are on stupid wages these days and if we get 2 or 3 million for him that won't buy us much in todays market.
Last summer I couldn't see the point in keeping Kolo Toure but he ended up doing a decent job for us with all the injury problems we had coupled with the amount of games we had to deal with. He was also apparently very good around the rest of the squad in regards to helping younger players and being a leader amongst a squad that had very few of them. I don't see why Lucas couldn't do a similar job this season and help out in midfield or defence whenever needed.
Lastly who can blame him for not wanting to take his family to Turkey at the moment with all the recent troubles over there. I wouldn't go there for a fucking holiday never mind to work.

I don't think there really is a problem with that. Not many people would argue, aside from his very biggest detractors, against him continuing the role that he's always had - a squad player who will be available to cover injuries, certain games, etc.
The reaction here really is because Arn and Modo repeatedly overstate his worth - "the best tackler in the Premiership", "he's the best we've got, ergo he's untouchable", etc. It's the assumption that his longevity is down to consistency and absolute quality, which we all know is rubbish.
The fact is, he's been a hero of circumstance really, we've seen a perfect midfield whither away under the collapse of Rafa's reign and the farce of Hodgson, Dalglish thought he could promote Spearing into a similar role so didn't buy. Rodgers didn't believe in playing with an orthodox DM and used Lucas sparingly, and Klopp has more or less done the same. He's been lucky in that sense, but he's also been a perfect professional and a good guy to have around the squad, he loves the club and clearly doesn't want to leave, so that's commendable and he deserves a bit of luck.
I think half the bile he gets thrown towards him these days is just a retaliation to the shite that Arn comes out with.
