Lucas - he's off ! - Oh no he Isn't

With Michael Carrick at 9, the totals surely have to include tackles which failed to win the ball.

Magic at no.8 is pretty eye-popping too. I liked him, but that surprises even me.

1) Fucking stop it

2) Lee Cattermole is 5th

3) Does this include fouls?

1) No. This thread is only 15 pages long. We need to make it to 100 pages if Lucas is to get his move to Turkey.

2) I know! Let's sign him up!

3) Read the small print. My guess is that this list isn't accurate at all! Some of the players on that list have been in the Premier League longer than Lucas, I'm guessing this is maybe "The most league tackles since someone starting giving a bollocks about counting tackles" - that's provided it bears any resemblance to any kind of accurate statistics at all.

Thats a list of the finest defensive players the Premiership has ever seen.

Or proof that the amount of tackles someone makes is not a good indicator of anything

Incidentally, didn't Arn once refer to this very list? I seem to remember an impassioned Lucas defence that involved him being hailed as the league's finest tackler!? Could this be the mythical proof!?

He probably did, everyone time he mounts a defense he gets so flustered he forgets Lucas' name and just refers to him as "the league's best tackler".

So still not sold yet guys ? but the thread goes on and the pages increase - the ink has not dried up with our views.

Lucas Trump is still here. Why do our managers think so highly of him - it can only be this right ?

If they thought that highly of him he wouldn't have been out of the side for long periods throughout the time he's been here. Someone would have come in for him during one of those absences - Heaven knows there've been plenty of them. There's a variety of reasons why he's slipped through the cracks, and star quality is not on the list.

Hurts don't it?

What hurts?

Are you suggesting that because Lucas has been played by all of these managers and that that is some indication of his quality?

I think most (if not all) fans would agree that Lucas has been a fantastic servant to the club. He gives 100%, is respectful and clearly is a well loved member of the club.

But, the form he showed up until his knee injury aside, Lucas is not good enough. You can debate whether he ever was good enough, that's fine. But what you can't debate is that Lucas isn't good enough for a first 11 chasing Champions League anymore (you've said yourself recently that you would be happy to let him go once a replacement is signed and you want him around because he's the only specialist DM in the squad).

Look at the teams interested in signing him (for around £2m!) - that's an indication of the stage he's at in his career.

I like Lucas, I really do, I think he is clearly a nice guy and has put in some great displays over the years. It's a shame that we didn't get to see the box-to-box midfielder Gremio had, but that's fine; Rafa converted him to a DM and the rest is history. When Lucas moves on (and the time is right, by the way, he should be allowed to play regularly in the twilight of his career if the chance is there) then I wish him all the luck he deserves.

Chasing Champions League in the Premier League isn't his level anymore.

Yet he is the current, as voted for by the fans, Morse MOTM of the season winner.

Despite being shunted to CB for most of the matches he played.

In a season where Liverpool finished 8th in the league (a year after a very similar squad only scraped 6th).

He isn't good enough. But don't mistake that statement for me saying that he is the only one that isn't.

What you posted is fair enough and pretty much how I see him as well.

I don't get how he inspires such devotion or such hatred. It's weird as fuck on both sides.

Definitely agree. Most players have the capacity to divide opinion, it just seems to be that Lucas' defenders are always vociferous!

I couldn't give a shit Modo, it's just hilarious that you fail to recognise he's never been a nailed on regular under any of them and his competition during that time span consists of Jay Spearing and Kevin Stewart.

But yeah, best tackler in the league and Klopp is clearly begging him to stay, so he can play centre half in the league cup again.

Keep opening this hoping the trolls get banned. Seriously we are a week away from the start of the season can't we concentrate on that instead of this ugly feuding. This place is in danger of turning into YNWA with a bunch of cliquey mates shouting down anyone who is not in their little gang until they all end up agreeing with each other in a massive borefest.

Flames will be fanned!

Small print.
This post is in now way an endorsement of Lucas Leiva, or his particular set of "abilities". "Tackles" may refer to successful or unsuccessful - this is not made explicitly clear - so there is room to take sides. These figures have not been fact-checked, I'll leave that to those that care.

How many of these were game-winning tackles?

Poulsen? Adam? Allen?
Also, is it his fault?

"never been a nailed on regular under any of them", really? Now we're making up stuff as well?

2009/10 - starts 32 league games = not a regular
2010/11 - starts 32 league games again = not a regular
2011/12 - starts first 12 league games of the season then gets injured for the rest of the season = not a regular
2012 /13- starts 24 league games = I guess this is where he became a reserve, btw injured for 3 months in the beginning of the season.
2013/14 - starts 20 league games = I think that's on par with Kevin Stewart, btw missed 1 month of football due to injury
2014/15 - starts 16 league games = Agreed, wasn't a regular here. Missed 1 1/2 month of football due to injury.
2015/16 - starts 21 league games ( think he was injured for a few weeks)

I hope that "never been a regular" rhetoric dies down now.

Looks like a downward trend of games with it picking up when our key midfielders were injured in 15/16.

I have no idea what YNWA is like but yeah.

I hope you shut the fuck up.

"We have an agreement with Liverpool over the transfer of Lucas, but they are having second thoughts because of a number of recent injuries," Galatasaray board member Levent Nazifoglu said at a news conference.

"We will until Monday to see what happens. We will look at other options if the deal is not done by then".

Huh, that kinda pissed on Modo's fantasy that Klopp is "hell bent on keeping Lucas around".

As does the fact that Lucas was sent to train on his tod after initially turning the move down. None of which will of course make the slightest inroad into Modo's chosen stance.
