Lucas as central defender

Mind you, Alan Hansen wasn't exactly your solid 'none shall pass' defender, given he couldn't head or tackle.

But he had the advantage of being one of the best players in Liverpool history

Plus he had Lawro next to him.

While I thought Lucas dud well at Cb (especially that block when Sahko got left on his arse for the 10th time) he should never ever be considered for that position except in extreme emergency like yesterday.

If you mean better than Lucas in that position, certainly. If you mean better at CB than in midfield, for once I don't agree. He's filled in there at times and not done too badly, but neither his skills nor his instincts are primarily defensive. I don't think he'd be a success there long-term.

Yeah, I meant better than Lucas at CB. He should play in midfield, obviously.

Ha. Lucas isn't the problem at the moment.
Although not the complete problem he's certainly a big part of it.
The whole midfield thing is a problem to be honest - Hendo returning getting fit , Can not really impressing and Milner is no more than Simons for the bench. Lucas in his rare spells of life is passable no more, and when he is somnambulant he's neither use nor ornament you may as well play Allen, at least he's mobile.
Lucas's problem is he's quite likeable and his heart is in the right place but people get confused with that and being a decent player

Ah, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher. Three tall, strong, clever, supremely talented defenders who were all solid as fuck.

Compared to the likes of Lovren, Sakho and Skrtel, it really is depressing.

Only Hyypia was "tall" but the rest is spot on.
Deeney said in his post match interview that we didnt fancy a fight. And thats the key issue.
We've got a team of soft players. Desperatly need to sort that out.

I haven't given up on Sakho yet. Like everybody else he had a poor game at Watford, but I think with the right partner he could become a legend for us. I particularly like his ambition to get the ball forward.
A legend? Bloody hell Porters have you been at the liqueurs already my dear old thing?

No it's very different as Portly said he had a shit game , but on the back of being rushed back after injury we have a significant mitigating factor -
It isn't very different because Sakho is clearly a lovely fella but a distinctly average footballer.

Sakho's another.

It's an understandable point. I really don't know about the guy. He's like those old '3-D' pics where you'd look at one angle, fine, another angle, bad, another angle... He sometimes looks terrific as one of the aggressive players this team badly needs, and his distribution, though it looks weird, is better than many, but then he does mad things like two drag backs when he's the last line of defence and he's off balance. I just have no idea what to think of him. The fact that he's a great guy off the pitch, as you say, probably makes me hope more strongly than usual he proves himself as a player.

I disagree he's a good player who had a shit game and is a lovely bloke. Whereas as we have established Lucas is a decent bloke who is a shit player that has the odd good game

I don't share your optimism about Sakho. But Lucas has been so fucking shit for so fucking long I genuinely despair.

That's exactly it. In one game, in fact in five minutes, he can look world class and absolute rot. And he does both in just about every game he plays. I really want to be proved wrong about Sakho but I just don't think there's a consistently dependable player in there.

Sahko has been our best defender by a country mile when he's played this season, I just don't get why you're jumping on his back in his first game back when obviously not match fit. Sure he had a shit game, who didn't, but was not as bad as Skrtel imho.
