Its about time we put another manager under the spotlight.

He arrived with a big reputation, that combined with lots of money and it was inevitable that United were going to get back on their perch.

Since taking over he's bought the following:

Firstly in 14/15:
Di Maria - disaster
Falcao - disaster mitigated by the fact it's a loan deal
Shaw - looks like they paid for hype.
Blind - seems useful enough
Rojo - same
Herrera - decent

They won 6 more points than the previous season despite a massive outlay on the above players. Two of them have left already. And i think the season is summed up well here:

"In typical United fashion, they finished fourth, but they did it on the back of results that outstripped the quality of their performances. There was a parade of weird flukes and games when almost every United shot found the back of the net. Getting consistently outshot is no way to go through life if you expect to be a Champions League team, and yet United managed."

Add in that some potentially unrepeatable heroics from De Gea as well.

This summer he's bought:
Depay - looks good, but I think he'll take time to be a success in the league.
Schneidelein- Smashing player. seems to have been the key to Southampton
Schweinsteiger - a punt on shaking a good season or two out of a previously great player.
Darmian - looks fine so far.

Overall you'd have to say the signings are mixed. Although that may change if they find someone to:

It's nice to see them lose out on Otamendi and particulalry Pedro when they badly need something up front.

The pressure will be on this season to win something, and I have to say I think it's obvious they'll win the league by 25 points this season.

They'll inevitably finish top four and by the end of the season Van Gaal still won't have figured out what he's trying to do.

I thought it was hilarious that pedro apparently didn't want to go there because LVG is a cunt.

But I agree with you, he gets more than his fair share of luck.

Mad Louie has a very good past record, but I wondered whether he'd turn out to be a busted flush at this late stage in his career even before he went there. The Mancs got fourth last season at least as much because we (and possibly Tottenham, though I'm not sure it applies to them) underperformed as because of any quality the Mancs themselves brought to the table. They may quite well get top four, because winning runs annoyingly deep in that club's DNA and because I reckon the league may well be pretty tight this season anyway, but I don't think they're nailed on for it by any means.

They've started in very similar fashion to us. Stronger defensively than many imagined, poor and uninspired in attack, but have collected maximum points so far.

The trump card we have is Firmino and Sturridge. I'd be disappointed not to finish above United this season unless they sign someone really good.

They were muck last season. Pure dogshit apart from the game at Anfield and home to Spurs. Their win at Arsenal is one of the biggest flukes I've ever seen. 1-0 up at one stage with no shots on goal. Pure flukes and ridiculous heroics saw them scrape into fourth. If ourselves or Spurs had gotten our acts together before February they were in trouble. They'll be decent, but no better this season, but he seems to have gotten the balance wrong. One striker. Mata is excellent and Depay has huge potential and Schweinsteiger, Carrick and Schneiderlen is a good choice to choose a midfield pairing from, but they're struggling at the back. Rojo is wild at times, Blind is not a centre half, Smalling has been good so far this season, but historically is very inconsistent as is Jones. Darmian seems like a good full back as is Shaw, but their backups are suspect at best. Couple that with a fairly dodgy keeper and it wouldn't inspire confidence.

If Sturridge stays fits and Firmino settles well I'd be very disappointed finishing below them.

Darmian, Schneiderlin and Depay look like good signings this season. Early though.

But yeah, their solution seem to be throwing money at their problems.
Sadly they've got fucking tons of it.

Will probably be the team to try and catch for the top 4 spot.

Louis has said he'll be gone by 2017. Might be sooner if there is some lack of success and the players hate him.
The De Gea stuff doesnt make him look good.

He's prime target for season 1 was get back in the top 4.

Season two will be to challenge and consolidate top 4

Third season is where he needs to win the league or he'll come under pressure
