Oh, and Dirk, I love you for the "game over" steez after the penno.

Brap !
What was that? My fucking stream went for the last few minutes.
Remember when Rafa made that "supposed Game Over" gesture against Blackburn last season ?

When Fat Sam and Ginsoak made up that story about Rafa being the rudest man in the world ever ?

Well, Dirk did it last night after he scored the penalty.

The second picture livvy posted (of Colonel Dirk leading the troops) shows the approximate time.

I fuckin' love me some Dirkage. Crazy, I know, I just can't help it.

He's a great penalty taker isn't he ?
I too love Dirk. He's like one of the family.

Sarcasm eh?

As you know, your posts don't need more pizzazz, I just wish you'd tone down the Lucas posts, we get that you hate him (I hate him too) but the constant reiteration of your loathing is uneccessary and boring.

Apart from Carragher's excellent captaincy (much better than Gerrard IMO) the heartwarming thing about the Spurs match was that some of the "fringe" players who come in for a lot of flak really stepped up to the plate. In defence, Insua, Kyriakos and Degen all had heroic games because they were constantly put under pressure through the weakness of our midfield compared to Spurs. I thought Riera also had an excellent game, particularly considering that it was his first start in the first team for ages.

I was beginning to get seriously worried after all those squandered chances but that was some cool as ice shit from Kuyt there. Two fantastic penalties.

Also, these last 5-10mins have shown why some afford N'Gog a little patience. Wonderful cameo from him today.
He did well when he came on. It's worth noting he had a partner in Kuyt and wasn't being asked to deputize for Torres in a 4-5-1 on this occasion. That's how it should be going forward. And I'd rather see him come on in games we're leading, than start big games where there's heaps of pressure on him.
Plenty of us pointed this out in the post-Stoke game the other day, which you waded in to and declared it was all irrelevent because "he shouldn't be anywhere near our team because he's simply not good enough".

Changed your tune pretty quickly mate.
Firstly, I didn't declare anything 'irrelevant'. I said some time before the Stoke game that if N'gog plays it should be with a partner, preferably Kuyt. I'd dig it up, but I can't be arsed.

And neither have I changed my tune. I was simply giving credit where it was due. Would you prefer I'd denounced his performance as 'shit' just to maintain consistency? I prefer to call things how I see them rather than nail my colours to the mast and then stick steadfastly by them regardless of any evidence to the contrary. It was a nice cameo, so I acknowledged it.

That said, do I think N'gog will make it at a top club on the back of that performance? No, I don't. Do I think he should be anywhere near our team? No, I don't, because I think Rafa should have much better options available to him at this stage. However, he's all we've got so of course he's going to get games. I was simply pointing out that if he's going to play then it should be under those provisos.

That was the best bit of the article Sunny:

Praise for Reds fans after Spurs win
Liverpool fans ensured their team had a boost ahead of kick-off last night by meeting the team buses down Anfield Road with their flags and voices in full flow.

As the Reds coach neared the Shankly Gates around 300 supporters had gathered, along with dozens of the finest flags celebrating the club’s history. The chanting supporters were appluaded by Rafa Benitez and Sammy Lee as they were clearly taken by surprise at the support.

The atmosphere continued inside the ground where The Kop served up one of the best atmosphere’s of the season, with Dirk Kuyt’s early goal setting the tone for a solid performance on and off the pitch.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said of the Reds support after the game “You come here to Anfield, you stand there and listen to that crowd, and it’s the greatest sight in football.â€

The flags on Anfield Road idea was Paul Gardner of the Spirit of Shankly supporters union, he told Click Liverpool “Tonight was a show of support for the team and the manager. It just showed that we can get behind them.

“We’re still behind the team 100% and we came down here tonight to show that we’re behind the lads. We keep being told that our fans are the 12th man and tonight we’re going to prove it.

“Hopefully it gave them that little boost and made them come off that coach feeling ten feet tall and hoping they went onto the pitch, firing on all cyliners to try and make a difference.â€

It certainly appeared to with a much improved performance from several players on the pitch.

I hate the way those SOS socialists are becoming the voice of the fans. Good intentions aside, they don't speak for me and never will and I don't like some of their methods.

Liverpool FC Kop 'most amazing sight in football' says Harry Redknapp
Jan 21 2010 By James Pearce

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp hailed the Kop as “the most amazing sight in football†after seeing his side beaten 2-0 by Liverpool last night.

The Spurs manager believes the Reds were inspired by the red-hot atmosphere generated all around Anfield by a vociferous capacity crowd.

“You have to give credit where it’s due, Liverpool worked their socks off. They closed us down and pressed us,†Redknapp said.

"I have said before you never get an easy game here.

"You stand out there and hear the crowd sing - it's the most amazing sight in football, and it lifts the players.

"I said to my players 'Don't think they are going to come out here and give a half-hearted performance because they have got some good players missing.

"Their players responded to the crowd and deserved the win in fairness.

“Dirk Kuyt never stopped working and chasing, the whole team played with great enthusiasm."

Redknapp admitted: “Too many of our players were below par, but credit to Liverpool because they pressed us, made it difficult for us, and never let us play.â€

Victory enabled Liverpool to close the gap on fourth-placed Spurs to just one point and re-ignited the Reds’ push for Champions League qualification.

“I came here thinking we could win tonight so I was disappointed really,†Redknapp added.

“We needed to get off to a decent start to get the crowd quiet but they scored an early goal.

“The race for top four is open. Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham - it is a toss-up.

“We’ve been on a good run but just because we’ve lost one game it doesn’t mean we’re out o it. It is all to play for still.â€

You've got to love Pepe....

Assistant manager Lee paid tribute to the show of support from the fans which he admits left the players and staff feeling emotional as they arrived at Anfield.

He said: "There is not enough praise for our supporters. To see them showing their support when we arrived was massive. We try to integrate our supporters into everything we do because they are part of what we are doing.

"It was really emotional for us to see them singing and supporting us as always. The players certainly appreciated it.

"Pepe Reina came up to me in the dressing room and he was very emotional. He said this wouldn't happen at any other football club and it meant a lot to everybody."

True, but that particular idea (flags on Anfield Rd) was wonderful and should be applauded, irrespective of who came up with it.

We were driving home from the match down Smithdown Road, when we noticed Xavier Mascherano was alongside us, also driving home, in some kind of souped-up Audi. He was driving rather carefully and steadily which surprised me - I would have expected him to zigzag along the road, clattering any other cars he should come across.

I manoeuvered my car so we stopped alongside Mascherano at the lights - I wound my window down, gave him the thumbs up and shouted "Good game!" - which I thought was fair enough as he did have a good game.

Xavier smiled and waved, then the lights changed.

thumbs up

Pepe was EASILY the most devoted player even on the Singapore tour (a tour which didnt mean much in the grand scheme of things, except to us).

I can easily believe how much yesterday's support would have meant to him.

I can easily believe that Avvy.

He's just a great player, whilst at the same time he seems to really appreciate playing for us.

I love Pepe.

Interesting stat: Gareth Bale still hasn't started on a winning Spurs team in the Premier League.

What a fucking Jonah. I thought that stat must have gone in this good season they're having. Apparently not.
