Match Thread Spurs (H) - Coca Cola Cup Semi - Thursday 20:00

I hate arguing for Trent (hence I rarely do), because by association it seems a slight on Bradley. It's not, we are so fortunate to have Bradley coming through in his place, I just truly believe Trent is generational. This season the criticism is fair, but he's earned our faith for this season in my eyes. Moot point anyway as he's clearly off, I just think it's a tragedy how he's wasting his potential to be one of the greatest our clubs ever seen, his trajectory is Gerrard if he could just sort his egotistical head out. Madrid is full of the worse kind of talent in football, I hate that he wants to join that.
I get what you're saying, but why do I feel like Bradley in the same position as Trent would tell Real to fuck off?
Trent has been pampered by the club and the fans for his entire career. We've always had his back. To see him play like he's playing now is extremely disappointing.

Honestly, because he'll never be close to the player Trent is, and could be.

How do you know that? He's only 21 years old and a different type of right back.
What I saw today was a player who didn't need babysitting in defence and made it a lot easier for those around him to play their "normal" game.
He even got an assist.

But Trent was a key part of a Premier league and champions league winning side at that age, we are forgetting just how good he is.

I'm not forgetting who he was. I'm talking about who he is right now.
Don't get me wrong, Trent is a world class player. I'm just not sure that he's a world class right back at the moment.

I do the salute like a twat on my sofa every time he scores, love that celebration. I know what it’s like to be Sherwood at that moment and rather enjoy it.

But he's not in the same position as Trent.

He's a 21 year old right back who's finding his place in the team and trying to displace the greatest Right Back this club has ever seen.

You're right. Anyway...

Isnt Sky just hedging...

They have different pundits taking completely opposed extreme positions.

Neville v Carragher v Merson. They don't care who's right. After the fact, one of them will just have a massive dig at the other, and fans will get a dopamine overdose. Oldest trick in the playbook.
Yeah. It boosts the viewing figures amongst opposition supporters to hear less praise for Liverpool and more contrarian support for other teams.

It's a balancing act. Trent superior and mercurial going forward (which is where arguably we don't need it) and Bradley undoubtedly a better defender ( though clearly not perfect and at 21 still learning his trade).

Personally I just feel that this team, under Slot, needs a Bradley at FB more so than they do a Trent.

As Doc. pointed out we have a great record when Bradley has played so we're not deficient when he starts and he not only gives Konate and Gravy less work to do defensively but makes the opposition more thoughtful as to where to attack without such an obvious weak point.

We're a better balanced team.

How difficult is it going to be to get the tickets? I might be London a couple of days before and I'd love to extend the stay for the final
Generally there is a ballot for season ticket holders, so general sale availability is extremely unlikely I'm afraid

Our team scores more than enough. The overall > the sum of the parts.

Are you complaining about our no9 not scoring in a game we win 4-0 and he wins a penalty?

Ok……..
Pat I didn't complain about anything in this thread, you brought us up being non-clinical by being a contrarian and making sarky (borderline cunty) posts. I praised Nunez today and thought he was excellent. I brought up our 9 not scoring to point out "this was a rout, but our 9 didnt score, so we could be better"

If I spent the thread saying Nunez was shite and should be scoring then fine. But I didn't. You brought up (once again) reasonable points people have made at other times, in a game where they didn't apply. You're like an arsenal fan crowing about a 5-1 that we don't need a striker, then bemused when we lose 0-2 the next.

Perhaps not in terms of having Trent's vision, I absolutely buy this. But playing on the other flank has been another FB you'd also say has not got Trent's talent but has been arguably just as important in winning every trophy under Klopp. This player has never until this year been a weak link in our defence whilst still being a cog in our attack. Bradley is much more in the Robbo school, and doesn't need to be a generational talent to make us better as a team.

I don’t bemuse our attacking quality when we lose the next 2-0 as we haven’t done that. We’ve lost one game all season where we didn’t score against a good Forest side.
So your last point makes zero sense. It’s others who throughout the season have been over critical imo of our attackers esp in the no9 position. The way we set up and play we don’t need our no9 to score as much and arguably if we had a Haaland type goal hanger who didn’t make selfless run and link up play like Diaz has in the no9 role many times then we wouldn’t have won as many games as we have or scored as many overall goals.

Anyway I guess it’s a debate that will never be agreed on. We are back in a final which is brilliant and hopefully without any injuries.

That's a massive assumption. He might not have half of the natural precision that Trent has with the ball at his feet, but he can be twice the defender he is and he's no shirker going forward. So ok, he might not score the worldy's that Trent does, or tot up the same amount of assists (certainly not in the same eye catching way, anyway) but he's a more rounded fullback with the potential to provide, on balance, the same level of success.
