Liverpool v Newcastle Match Thread

It's the same linesman who celebrated giving a pen against us versus Spurs

Get outta town! Really?? He was a fucking disgrace in that game too..

So... the cunt gives two highly dodgy fucking pens against us and fails to gives us an actual genuine bolt on certain penalty... the club has to get him barred from ever stepping foot in the ground again.

It was a great save. He's gone from not making any save of note, to pulling out some cracking stops over the last several games. Good stuff.

Dat Karius save...
Yeah.... it was a splendiferous safe... it’s seems he is finally settling into being a good goaly...

And I’ve seen people say we weren’t at the races today and i5 wasn’t a good performance etc etc.... we were in total control of that game against a very well drilled and fully parked bus.

I think we were boss.

It's fucking great and we actually have an easier (supposed) run in than our rivals. Only Utd the hardest game left as far as I can see.

If city win tomorrow then that's a great result for us too....

Let's keep building

Interesting tactics from Rafa. They looked like they were hunting in packs, but they were mainly just providing a three man wall around our players. It was quite strange but it worked for a while.

Alexander-Arnold can look like the kid he still is at times. There's a lot of work to be done on his decision-making, but he still got a few decent crosses in.

I'm surprised Lallana is taking so long to settle back into his stride again. He didn't seem to be on the same wavelength as Robertson.

But that was a good workmanlike performance.

Chelsea away as well.... both hard games....

Chelsea away will be a bugger. Maybe worse than Utd.

Spurs have the easiest run in. And as has been stated we still have Chelsea away too (Spurs also have 2 x Top 6 games remaining).

We look fucking solid if we just keep our front 3 fit. Thought Chamberlain and Hendo were fabulous today. With Gini and Can we can hopefully rotate that enough until then end of the season. But we're a couple of injuries away from really struggling in midfield, maybe more than up front.

In the match I thought we were pretty average (probably just wanted to have a moan cos it was fucking freezing). I thought we were a bit sloppy with the ball at times, especially TAA and Can. However, on reflection, Newcastle just tried to park the bus and we still won despite it feeling like a training session.

I know Newcastle's attack is toothless but the defence looks so much more stable - I think sticking with Karius instead of chopping and changing the goalies has helped a lot. Hopefully Klopp will do the same with the centre backs and pick one of them as a permanent partner for VVD. Lovren looks a much better player with VVD alongside him and would be my choice.

Top save from the goalie - I've been a big critic of him but he's hardly put a foot wrong since he came back into the team - plus his distribution is well better than Mignolet.

How we didn't get a pen at the end is beyond belief. The quality of officiating is abysmal.

Ok - here's my review:-

1) Really pissed off with Firminio not scoring - it would have been perfect this time as the scorers would have finally done the scoring in the right order of the song - Salah, Mane, Roberto Firminio. Fucked off with that - they should have tried harder.

2) I kept on thinking during the game about all the side-ways passing and shit from left to back to right to back to left - fucking just have a go at their midfield. But I think the funniest moment was of course when McMoneyman had just mentioned how bad our passing was was and a few seconds later we produce a City'esque type goal by stringing together 5 passes in near perfect harmony and Mane scores !!! - this season many of our goals have come from the front three and very rarely involves such intricate midfield play - but finally we did it and probably one of the best goals the season for us.

3) Karius - was excellent and so was Henderson, and Ox - very good today. Ox played the way we know he could and I wish he would run more in the centre he has the pace and power to bulldoze his way through a midfield.

4) Game overall was a bit boring though but I must say that TAA showed great discipline and maturity this game in both defence and attack. The kid is really improving all the time. I don't really know if Gomez will have a future if TAA continues to improve.

Thanks,

MORON

I agree in that he seems more steady than Gomez but he didn't have a particularly good game today. He kept doing aimless punts up the wing. At the beginning of the second half he had the option to pass back to Karius but instead lumped it to a Newcastle player which put us under pressure. I didn't think he offered much attacking wise either.

Yeah but like you said - they were virtually parking the bus, and in any-case - I don't expect a forward thinking player to constantly pass backwards like so many of them were today. Newcastle were doing the Rafa thing of trying to block every channel.

If we win this and Chelsea lose tomorrow, we'll be effectively 8 points clear(with GD) with 9 games to go. That's fourth place pretty much wrapped up.

Except we play both Utd and Chelsea away,

Get past both those games undefeated and then we can say that.

How on earth was that not a foul on Salah?
It was a blatant push in the back.

Harry Kane would have gotten a pen there.

We don't play Chelsea until second last game of season. If they lose tomorrow there's every chance it's done and dusted by then. 7 points in 8 games to make up for a Club which looks a bit broken will be a tall order...not impossible because they've still got some boss players but genuinely think this game tomorrow could well prove to be a biggy.

I had a look at that on my recording after I got back from the match.

The foul was just outside the area, so it should have been a free kick. And of course the defender should have been sent off as Salah was through on goal.

That ref Michael Scott seemed reluctant to make decisions throughout the match.

Quiffer.

Anyway let's add in the fact that we have a +10 advantage in GD as well and that's effectively 8 pts. Come on City we could do with that buffer since Chelsea aren't going to be in the CL 1/4 finals.

EDIT. Damn I'm quiffing now, bloody Gerry.

Bit really if Chelsea beat us by lets say 2 goals then it's 6 and we lose or draw another game and they win by a decent margin then the GD could be very tight.

The game at the bridge is massive

5 points in 8.

There are 9 games left and one is against us.

5 points over 8 games from a team that's capable of going on a run of wins isn't a crazy thought.

We just need to keep our momentum going and be out of sight.

I want 2nd it will give the whole club a boost.

Not sure you read my post properly - I said IF Chelsea lose tomorrow then they're 7 behind us with 8 games left.
