Liverpool - Spurs pre match thread

Ermmmm..I'm still not sure why ye are debating this to this extent? It stemmed from Mystic's post;

Nah, they've been much more consistent than us this season, impressively consistent in fact, but if both our best teams turn up, we'll win.

He was initially on about us being better on the day and went to say we've had a decent success against them recently.

This is a thread about out match against them. Are head to heads any less relevant to this discussion than historical league positions?

Dare you to find the post where I said we were better than them? Maybe whilst you're searching for it you might rediscover your ability to read a post.

I think it was when you said this:

"Nah, they've been much more consistent than us this season, impressively consistent in fact, but if both our best teams turn up, we'll win."

Now, even the most cursory glance at this sentence should be enough to conclude that you think Liverpool have a better team, because you clearly state that if both teams perform at their best, then the outcome would be a Liverpool win, because with all factors and performances at their respective peaks, the better team is Liverpool.

Perhaps that's not what you meant to say, but that is what you did say. If you didn't mean to say it, then please feel free to edit your post accordingly, so it doesn't say it.

The better team is more likely to win. That ream is Spurs. Because they're a better team. I don't understand what's so hard to work out.

I know what you're saying but it's a one off game over 90 mins. Spurs are definitely better than us this season and have finished above us in the last few seasons but I fancy us to beat them on the day. Bookies have us favourites too btw.

Yeah, I think we can beat Spurs. We can beat any team in a one-off game, even if they are better than us.

We haven't perform at our best or been consistent enough to finish above Spurs in recent times. Hopefully tomorrow will be another example of us out performing them on the day.

Yep.

But I just don't want to put it in writing that Spurs are better than us. I hope this year is the last year of them finishing above us.

Man City where the 'better Team'.. Hoofed.. Twice..

Leicester where the 'better Team' beaten at Home..

Over 90 minutes anything can happen..

Well personally I don't know what the teams are going to be tomorrow, but maybe you have an edge there, so I'll reserve judgement until I see the teams.
As far as Spurs being better than us over the past few years - no argument in general, there may be an exceptional year with valid excuses, but that has nothing to do with tomorrow at all.

Yeah. But nobody is arguing that point. Least of all me. Poor old Mystic's just got himself into a terrible muddle. It's all OK now.

For me "better team" is much more than just the names in the squad. Spurs have a teamwork and interplay that we struggle to find consistently

Out players individually may be better, but spurs are a much better team

No, it's not what I said, regardless of how much you want it to be, because for me to say that I would be implying that consistency isn't a major factor in determining how good a team is, and that's quite frankly ridiculous. You jumped to the wrong conclusion and put words in my mouth, that's fine, it happens, but can you drop this and get back to discussing something constructive, like whether we can beat them if we're on our game, like I originally suggested.

This is part of why I'm hopeful of us winning tomorrow, and part of my cutting edge comment earlier, when we play at our best and our players click, our interplay going forward is one of, if not the best in the league, if that side turns up I believe we'll win, if it doesn't we'll be lucky to scrap a draw.

To summarise the last umpteen posts...our best vs any other team's best will usually see us win. Unfortunately we don't play to our best as often as other teams play to theirs. And we're less able to survive a mediocre performance than other sides are.

Spurs have had a 30goal a season striker carrying their assess for the last 2 seasons, if we'd had Sturridge fit and doing that, they'd not be finishing above us.
And before that, Bale the monkey boy. They've had a single player in recent years, carrying them, they're not this awesome fucking cohesive barca type unit people are making out.

They've also conceded fewer goals than anyone else...that helps.

I hate Spurs as much as anyone on here but anyone who denies they're where they deserve to be is simply dillusional. See Leicester deniers also.

Roberto Firmino faces a late fitness test ahead of Liverpool's game with Tottenham tomorrow – but Christian Benteke is definitely ruled out.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Firmino, who has been struggling with a hamstring problem, was “close” to a return – but would be assessed at Melwood over the next 24 hours. Benteke, though, will miss the game due to a knee injury sustained on international duty with Belgium.

"The dilemma is not too big," Klopp told his pre-match press conference. "Not much has changed in a positive way.
"We had problems with the Belgian players. Divock Origi couldn't play the games for Belgium because of a little muscle issue, but he's back in training now. He's available.

"It's completely different with Christian Benteke. At this moment he is not available and we have to wait for further assessments to know how exactly it will be. For this game, for sure there is no chance.

"Roberto Firmino will be close. We have to make a decision maybe tomorrow. We will see. Another 24 hours, but we cannot put pressure in this situation. We have to wait and see how he feels. That's it. "Most of the players came back healthy, that's good."

Spurs are obviously the better side in terms of consistency but I believe we have the ability to play to a higher level over 90 mins.
We are just hopeless at trying to repeat that over a 38 game stretch.
We'll win and easily.

If you reversed the relative injury records to key players this season between us and spurs, we'd be above them.

So it's not straightforward to say they've a better team and is not ridiculous to say if either team had their full strength team out we'd win.

Every time ManUre won the League, there were threads on here saying how 10 of our players would get in their team.
I want a bit of whatever you fuckin crackpots are smoking.

I dont care about what the bigger picture in the league and eufa cup and all that shit....

I just hope that we turn it up and batter these cunts

And no "should've signed Alli" posts during the game. We all fucking know it and he'll obviously be boss today.

People overestimate our lot and underestimate everyone else

Unless we're linked to them. They're they're the final piece of the puzzle

Where? Jesus wept.
I can understand people sticking to their point of view even though the argument / opinion is stacked against them but I can't understand people continuing to pollute their posts with poor spelling, vocabulary or grammar, when it's been pointed out to them a hundred times. Has it not sunk in yet ? And if not why not !

Although reading the pre-match threads when we actually play them, one easily comes away with the opinion that it's exactly the reverse.
I'd agree with that. Even players such are Coutinho as often criticised as being 'inconsistent'. Name me one player who performs to an 8 or 9/10 week in week out.

No average team can beat City 4-1 on their home turf, or likewise Chelsea, knock United out of the EL or even beat Leicester (only 2 PL defeats this season). Our problem is, as we well know, consistency, not whether we are actually capable of reaching those lofty peaks of performance.
