Would you be happy with Mark Hughes?

That question is to Rafa4PM & Brendan.

A former Manc without much success so far.

That's a tough one.
Busby was a former scouser

Lippi is quite old and has never managed in England.
Laudrup? With Carragher as assistant? Really?
Blanc could be decent but he has agreed to join Inter this summer.
Deschamps hasn't dome much, has he?
Benfica's manager has an awful hair style.
We have been rather successful in the past with awful hair styles haven't we..

I still don't like the idea. Especially not when I'm not even rating the guy.

I could be wrong obviously.

I'm of the opinion he was harshly treated at City. He signed some top class attacking talent. He did a good job at Wales and a great job at Blackburn. He's out of work and would jump at the gig. He's British, understands the league and was a winner as a player. I wouldn't be too fussed about his Manc background.

Jose is the man for me, but Hughes could be a decent outside bet.

Fair enough.

Maybe it takes a Manc to make us overtake the Mancs once again - I highly doubt it though.

Hughes shouldn't be anywhere near our team.
Chelsea and Manc cunt that he is, and yes he signed some top class talent, but he had unlimited funds and blanc checks he could fill in what he wanted to use.

No ta.

He didn't have a cheque book at all at Wales mate, very limited funds at Blackburn also. Look I'm not championing Hughes here, he's not my first choice either. I was putting him forward as a British alternative. He does tick some of the boxes.

People are talking as if it's nailed on that Rafa will be gone this summer.

I don't think he will be.

I don't think he was harshly treated. Top signings they may have been, but he couldn't get them to gel and produce their best. With Wales and Blackburn he had limited resources and made the best of them, i.e.those were very different jobs to the Citeh gig or indeed the one that would face him here. No thanks.

That's an exaggeration. People are talking as if there's a fair chance that Rafa will be gone, and there is.

Of the likely candidates only Mourinho would be an improvement on Benitez in my opinion.

Rijkaard, McLeish, Hughes etc do not have the record and/or experience.

Likely new owners, a possible new stadium and a 'young' Manager would be a real leap of faith.

I suspect the board will plump for an experienced team Manager.

Mourinho and at a squeak, Blanc, for me from that list.

I'm surprised the latter hasn't attracted more sympathy on here. He's done a mighty fine job at Bordeaux.

Mourinho is the only one I know who could even turn our surrent squad into title challengers. And by surrent I mean current.

Mourinho and Capello are the standout candidates. Not sure how likely either of them are, but those are the two you'd want.

I wonder how many of our squad would perform better with the arm round the shoulder method of man management than Rafa's calculated machine theory.

I'd prefer to split the role up and appoint Kenny Dalglish as Technical Director responsible for squad additions, the scouting network, the youth system etc.

Then have a coach to take the training, decide tactics, pick the matchday lineups etc and deal with the day to day football end of things.

Very few managers can do the whole job well on their own.

Has that system ever worked in England? And what makes you think Kenny would be any good as a technical director?

Probably not, but that's not to say it can't.

Primarily I'd like a technical director who can evaluate a player, I think Kenny can do that. He has immediate credibility in the role too. It doesn't necessarily have to be him but he's a decent place to start.

Oh .... I forgot about Chelsea, given they're about to win the league you could argue it has worked. Arnesen being their behind the scenes man.

Kenny left the squad in a bit of a state.

As long as we're going down that route, Barca's technical director is leaving in the summer along with Laporta. Could do worse.

Talking of Barca, Guardiola only has a year left on his contract and was quoted recently saying he'd like to manage in a different country next.

Any takers?

He certainly has charisma. Spain and Argentina arguably have the best selection of players around the world at the moment so it could assist us to sign some terrific talent from those countries.

However, i think i could manage Barcelona and lead them to some form of success. Their team is full of professionals and exceptionally talented players.

Heh, sadly JJ I'm not sure it's so clear which hemisphere we're closer to - that of Blackburn and very limited budget or City with their unimited funds. Certainly if we accept what Rafa has repeatedly offered we're probably ready to start shopping in the same stores as Blackburn etc.
Marcelo Lippi would be a solid choice.

The options seems very limited as been said and I'm positive and hopeful Mourinho isn't coming.

I'd be tempted to take a right gamble as I simply don't think the alternatives, McLeish, MON, Hodgson etc are good enough.

Laudrup alongside perhaps Carra as assistant manager and Kenny Dalgliesh somewhere in the mix could work I'm sure.

Maybe Benficas manager is worth another look too - he's certainly doing a great job down there.

Laurent Blanc and Didier Deschamps could be other quite interesting candidates. Perhaps one of the Dutch-ones too.

There are candidates but none of them seems obvious.
I'm often painted as anti-Rafa, but I think all of those names you've mentioned are inferior to Rafa (Lippi mybe not)

The club has to do its homework and try to get the best possible replacement.

Like it or not, it's the manager you hate most.

I'd have to say, if the above is acceptable for Rafa, then i can't think of any solution out there that is better than having Kenny as the technical director and Rafa as the coach.

Mourinho will never accept to something like that. May be Kenny and Mon can do a good job of it as a team?

Rafa's inability to work well with his backroom staff is hurting the team. He has chopped and changed his backroom staff based on his whim, and it has made us go backwards. For a man who comes across as an introvert and a soft spoken gentle man...he has got a huge ego.
