It wasn't a lapse in concentration that gave someone that split second to get in ahead of the marker from an attack though, it was 'another' moment of stupidity from someone who's supposed to be an International class defender.
I'll take that he's a good player, but he's a shockingly indifferent defender and the fact that we keep having this conversation, and the fact that this issue keeps raising debate at club and international level should be enough to set the alarm bells ringing.
And let's forget the 'well in a side that keeps the ball better he'd be a perfect acquisition' notion. Football isn't played on paper, it's played on a pitch in shitty conditions where large portions of the game are spent trying to win the ball back to rebuild an attack. When we haven't got the ball and he's asked to hold his position and adopt a defensive mentality and sensibility, he's consistently a weak link.
Only God knows why he didnt just let it go out for a throw in. When in doubt kick it out.
