Leicester These Guys (a) - Pre-match Thread

I'm not sure about other DMs but our DM, namely Lucas for the longest time, adds nothing to the attacks. Where are the players like Veira, Keane, Mascher?

If Brannagan or Stewart have that effectiveness to attack yet can play as a tenacious DM then it's all the better. I'll be damn if we bring in a young player and ask him to model himself after Lucas.
Lucas isn't the perfect Dm, far from it to be fair. However, his strengths are his intelligence and his positioning.
Its probably the main reason he's looked better in that position than anyone we've had since Mascherano.

Wouldn't mind if they learned that from him. Stewart showed a lot of composure against West Ham. I'm still not sure if its a one off. But a player who can play like Lucas but with added speed and tenacity like Stewart also showed would definitely be an upgrade.

Love this press-conference, he seems to be in a good mood – probably partly because some important players are on the verge of returning and maybe he is starting to feel more settled overall. I think he has passed the most difficult and turbulent part of his early period here – there were some really painful losses (that gave Klopp a lot of useful info for analysis), some very badly timed injuries just as the schedule was at its fullest, centre-back crisis, different issues with Benteke and Sturridge... I felt it was a dangerous moment had we gone out of the FA cup at Exeter with a team full of kids right after the first team lost to United at home.

Fortunately, the kids were alright and let's hope the sense of optimism we got from the cup games will start to infect the first team too. Leicester will be a hard nut to crack, but Klopp looks really confident and prepared – I'm looking forward to a cracking contest tomorrow. Also very interesting comments on Joe Allen and about how the weather in England is affecting the style of play.

I was pissed by the time the game started and busy spouting shite to anyone who would listen but it looked to me that he has the prerequisites to fill the DM role. Maybe it's a waste of his other talents but he doesn't seem to shirk a challenge, seems to read the game well and spreads play well too. Maybe it's just my love of seeing young players come through the ranks coupled with my dislike of having seen Lucas's name on the team sheet nearly 300 times that I'm hoping Branagan is a DM'er.

He'll have a lot of tackling to do

From 2010 to 2016 Lucas led the EPL in tackles per game, five times in six seasons

Apparently this match will be his 300th for the club.

I don't bother with statistics DB I just watch football and judge players on what I see. I think statisitcs are for those who don't have enough faith in their own judgement of players/teams. I'm right far more often than not when evaluating players and I've been right all along with Lucas........not good enough as a regular starter for a team with title ambitions.

Team: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Lucas, Lallana, Milner, Firmino.

Ward, Toure, Benteke, Allen, Ibe, Flanagan, Teixeira.

We're all too busy trying to figure out who works for Rupert Murdoch, who eats the most chicken nuggets and whether scalextrics are good or bad Christmas presents that we've forgotten we're playing in an hour, any team news?

Seems like a team that will struggle to score goals again. It's down to Henderson, Lallana and Firmino really. I think our bench options are almost more likely to do it for us.

I'm surprised he's gone with Milner again in an attacking position. He's wank there.

Our midfield has ponderous written all over it. Bit disappointed not to see one of Branagan , Stewart or Caulker make the bench.

Agreed, but we aren't where near title ambitions and in fairness there are a lot of first teamers who need replacing ahead of him.
