Key to Studge's success

Nah, I think the key to Studge succeeding is playing with someone upfront. That can work with Benteke aswell but both cant drop down to collect the ball.

Ings has surprised a few people and its great that we might have 3 strikers that can score goals, work hard and rotate if needed. All defending on which team we play. Might help Studge stay fit.

Potentially and in the future I think Origi will be the best and most natural partner for Studge. Of course first he needs to get his feet wet in this league and rediscover his confidence. But once he does, I think his natural game would fit very well with Sturridge's.

Have to say Ive been pleasantly surprised by Ings, it makes a huge difference to have a 3rd choice striker who actually looks like they can score as opposed to just a jersey filler for when one of the main strikers is injured. At the start of the season I thought he would get about 8 goals this year based on limited opportunities but he looks capable of much better than that.

That said I dont think hes necessarily the key to Sturridge doing well, Sturridge benefits from quick interplay around the box hes never going to be a target man so its vital to get players up around him and have runners from midfield. Playing as part of a front 2 will obviously help but I think he could do just as well alongside Benteke as long as we didnt resort to lumping too many long balls forward as thats not gonna play to Sturridges strengths

Scoring the first goal. If we don't then he won't get the space he need. He isn't that great against a park the bus defense.

He should have been subbed earlier. He was clearly tiring near the end. If he is gonna be a success this season we need to manage his game time.

I agree but won't happen, not with a manager that risk being sacked if we lose against Everton. Every manager would probably look short term if they risked being sacked. He can't afford to look long term and what is best for the player.

Ings played minimal to no part in Studge's goals yesterday. Watch closely.

But there was lesser man marking on him due to a second striker's presence. This gave him more space to make his runs. So in a way you're right but to pin it down to Ings alone being the key is kinda over-exaggerating.

Yes, He is. Go back and look at 2013/14. Interplay is key but Studge has great feet and often dribbles past 2-3 in the box before getting a shot off (or off-loading into the space he's just created). He is just as good in those scenarios as he is when given space to run at a defence (or run off the shoulder of the last defender).

Forget the goals - how about the ones Studge missed ? Don't be selective.

Mr Rodgers has done the classic rope-a-dope on all you bitches.
Soak it up, soak up the hits, pretend to be tired and finished.
BLAM STURRIDGE.

Studge doesn't have a great work rate ... if he plays next to a striker who continually harasses the opposition, it gives him more room (and opportunities b/c the defense is releasing the ball quicker). Neither of Studge's goals were Ings' doing ... but with him on the pitch, there's less pressure on him to do the dirty work and focus on what he does best - score goals.

The other thing that impresses about him is that he creates his own chances. He's not hanging around Pippo Inzaghi style waiting for a tasty ball, he's picking it up wide and deep and starting nice passing moves at the edge of the box. We have to pray for him to stay fit. And for Lovren to stay injured.

Its easy to forget how good he is when he's out injured.
Last time we scored 3 goals in a game he also started, back in March.
He looks in great shape, doesnt look concerned by any niggeling injuries and is obviously not 100% fit yet.

Rest him in on Thursday and play Ings and Origi against Sion.
