Jordan Henderson

Another note about Henderson today. There was a point when he was pressing Walker in Spurs half, he managed to get away from him by passing to another Spurs player, Henderson looked around and look horrified that someone wasn't pressing the guy he passed to, to cut the option off, it was great to see his determination and that fact he expects the team to press as a team.

Remember that! he wasn't happy and rightfully so.

I think we should keep things in perspective. It was an excellent performance from Henderson today. But he has performed excellently in the past, and then been terribly average for extended periods. I'm not taking anything away from him, but I'd like to see him string a few of these performances together before I start eulogising about him.

Like I said, I'm not taking anything away from him, I just think he needs to reach this level consistently to have a future here. Good luck to him.

What Henderson did yesterday was what he'd been trying to do the whole season, and managed to do in a few games last season. The main difference being that while the passes and shots didn't always come off well previously, they all fell neatly into place against Spurs. The pressing, running and all-around lung bursting remains the same but that extra sharpness in attack was what had been missing in the past. The next step up for him is to hit this level of offensive performance more regularly.

I love this chap; works hard, celebrates his goals like he's trying to burst a few arteries.

@mark1975 you really should stop using our other players (that work like hell for the team, and were incredibly good yesterday) to attack others with. It doesn't make your positives about certain players any more credible. Where's the old always positive koptalk Mark gone too?!

Who've I used to attack? I was having a minor dig at Modo's opinion that Lucas and Allen are above Henderson in terms of consistency and performance. I was just saying it's not really true. Read my match ratings, I praised practically everyone.

Wow. Just saw the video. Who the heck is that player ?!?

I hadn't realized how well he played until after watching the vid.

Let's hope he keeps this up and improves even further.

Can he play like that with Stevie back in the team. He needs to take responsibility not expect our captain to do it.

Are there any stats for our points or wins with and without Henderson? I feel like all our fuck ups last season came without him starting in the side.

Even when he's not playing like he did yesterday he still offers a lot to the side

Fucking hell he was brilliant yesterday but less of the revisionism please kids.

If he can play anywhere like that level from now on I'll shut up about how crap he has been, but he has been crap.

Yeah I was just thinking that. As @studsup pointed out he looks very similar to a young Gerrard. That performance was not a one off either. Happy days.

Definitely beg to differ. Yes he stepped up his game in the absence of Gerrard, but he's been consistently very good all season & for much of last season.

Not the first time you and I have disagreed with @Woland about Jordan.
This time I feel we very much have right on our side.

He has been decent for a long time now and been good to brilliant on occasions.
How about you desist from calling him crap right now @Woland on the understanding that normal service can he resumed if he does return to playing poorly

Maybe not crap but average. He did really well yesterday and would have been my MOM if not for Suarez. Long may it continue.

*Waits for someone to throw Lucas in my face*

henderson is replaceable no matter what his form was in the last game.

He harried, kept it simple and played some decent passes but we need more creativity in the middle to go on and become title winners.

Don't get me wrong, every team needs diligent workers and determination and he is that player, great squad player but not 1st team week in week out.

I know loads will disagree with me but in jan will still need better.

The wankometer exploding is more to do with the singular level of performance yesterday.

Sure, he's not done it over time, but fuck me, I never knew he had the potential to be THAT GOOD.

I want to see him destroy Yaya Toure now.

No one in their right mind would disagree with you based on one game, but he was Gerrard-esque yesterday and if he keeps it up, why shouldn't he be a starter for us?
