Starts today. Beeb reporting the max sentence is a 2.5k fine. So he can't be banged up then?

when you consider the costs for this case the fact the worst he can get is a couple of grand fine its pathetic

The FA gave Luis 40.000, which 16 times more than the maximum fine Terry can get.
And he got 8 games.

Hopefully he gets found guilty, cos then that'll exonerate Suarez from being a racist.

I can't wait til a few dimwits come on and tells us Suarez only said Negrito too.

I'm sure he will get found not guilty anyway.

I'm surprised that the maximum sentence for this is a fine. The maximum sentence for most things seems to be prison, although in many cases its rarely ever used of course.

The exact charge must be a relatively minor one, given that we have seen that guy on twitter and that woman on the tram both getting sent to prison.

What's the point in this trial really if he can only get fined that paltry amount? The trial itself would cost way more than that.

They could make him pay the fine AND the costs.

To be honest I don't care much about what the sentence is. The cost of him going to jail would be even more anyway. Would just like to see what the reaction would be by the FA, media and Chelsea if he is convicted as a racist.

How much would the costs be? These fines should possibly take into consideration how much money the defendant earns.

No idea but you often read about people getting a fine and having to pay costs too. Depends on how long the trial is I guess.

There was talk of means tested fines a few years ago. Not sure if it came to anything or not.

As I said though, surely it doesn't matter a great deal what the court punishment is should he be found guilty? It would be the potential affect on his career that would be the real punishment

I can't wait until a fuckwit brings up the Suarez case again...

Love the fact that a court case for John Terry have us bickering over our own player again.
That Suarez thread changed this forum, at least how some posters are concerned.

You started it.

Theres little point in comparing the two cases, given the very subtle differences that people will inevitably gloss over so their persecution complex can remain untouched.

Well, 2.500 to 40.000 is a bit of a difference dont you think?

Lets just wait to this case is over and see what the FA do, then we can start discussing, or trolling or whatever you call it.

But feel free to point out the the differences. That would at least give me, who hasnt bothered to much with the Terry case, a better understanding.

I don't think its within a judge's power to ban Terry for 12 matches to be fair

And that wasnt the intention either. It just bizzarre to me that the maximum penalty is a 2.500 fine.
As I said in another post lets just see what the FA do once this case is finished and he's found guilty/not guilty.

No point in comparing, terry will get off. Then the FA will say "he was found not guilty".

The Court has a 98% conviction rate

Still not convinced at all. He'll get off.

Or of he does get convicted the FA will say "he's already been punished ". Ultimately I'm going to be dissatisfied with the result, regardless of how suarez was treated

Well it will be interesting if he doesn't get off. He's certainly being caught on camera and I guess a lot will depend on Ferdinands witness testimony. I do reckon the FA will apply the Alan Shearer/Neil Lennon clause i.e. come up with some bullshit excuse the FA will be more than happy to swallow although it flies in the face of the obvious evidence.

Indeed Sean. My guess is guilty in court and the FA will say he's been punished enough.
