Fuck Joe Hart. We'll be able to get better for peanuts from some backwater in Europe.
And when we are looking, we need to use a better judging criteria than simply 'being better than Mignolet' as I would imagine most professional goalkeepers would tick that box.

As for Hart, he's just a better version of Mignolet, same errors, just less frequent, same good shot stopping ability, just even better.

So, compared to Mignolet he does less of the bad things and more of the good things?

I can see why you don't want him.

We're even being linked with Courtois. It's the silly season.

As for Hart, I find him a bit silly as a person - he seems to think he's part of some organic team instead of a conglomeration of mercenaries, of which it takes real imagination or stupidity to convince yourself - and he's not the most consistent of top keepers. I saw Jack Butland interviewed a while back and was struck by how refreshingly intelligent, mature and grounded he was, and he's got the potential to be as good as Hart, so if we're doing fantasy keepers I'll pick him.
I'd take proven quality over potential for the right here and now. And intelligence is not a prerequisite for a footballer.

He is 29. So if he is a goalkeeper who relies on positioning than lightning reflexes, he will do well for another 5-6 years. For the salary though, I think we maybe able to find better alternatives in the continent. But he does add to the English player quota.

City fielded 2 English players in the semi against Madrid. Hart & Sterling. They have more trouble meeting the English player quota than we do. For that reason only they could hold on to Hart for a while.

I'm indifferent to his signing, whilst he'd be a considerable improvement on what we've got, we could possibly find someone better for the price he'd command

I can never get this attitude to paying for good goalkeepers. Compare what a £20-25m keeper would have done for us this season compared to Mignolet or any of our other £20m plus players. We'd likely have finished Top 4 and who knows what else.
One of the most important positions on the pitch and grossly undervalued in the transfer market.

You misunderstand me, I'm saying we could do better with the money than Hart, not saying we shouldn't spend the money on a keeper.

Not into Hart, nor do I think it's plausible.

There's better money to be hard on the continant and if we're looking for a Premier League keeper than Butland is the man to buy.

Mignolet has to go this summer.

Various posters whom I like and whose opinions I respect have confidently stated that there's better value to be had in the market than we'd get from signing Hart. I wish I could be equally confident. "Cheaper" doesn't equate to "better value" if the player we sign isn't up to the standard we need.
