When Joe Allen to Liverpool was mentioned other day heard Swansea would use fee paid for Jordan Henderson as measure for any potential deal.

By all accounts we paid 16 million for Henderson. Allen seems to be far higher rated by some in here than Henderson. Therefore 16 million would probably be a fair price. In fairness to Swansea, they can ask for whatever we want. If we really really want him then we should pay what they want, otherwise we should piss off.
yep, its not like there arnt players out there who could do the same job as allen, i really hope we arnt bent over on this dealI'm sure they'd want £100m for him, so should we pay it? Of course not. The problem with us in the past is we've given right into clubs demands, we need to play hard ball.

What would be the point of Jordan Henderson if we signed Allen? Don't they supposedly occupy the same role in midfield?
You said we should be willing to pay whatever they wanted for him, so I used the £100m to emphasis the point, that whilst i'm sure thats how much they want (they'd want the largest figure possible) thats not the players true value, or his value for us, and we should only be negotiating based on how much we value the player, otherwise we'll keep getting shafted.
LIVERPOOL FC boss Brendan Rodgers has broken his silence on the speculation surrounding Swansea City star Joe Allen - and admitted he would want to make a move for the midfielder if he became available.
The former Swans boss has been heavily tipped to make a move to take 22-year-old Allen away from the Liberty Stadium - despite a 12 month player protection clause stopping him swooping for players at his ex-employers.

But although he confirmed his admiration for the Wales international, he said there was nothing further in terms of launching a bid.
"I have a great relationship with Swansea, but if there is a market for any of the players I would like to be in that market," Rodgers is quoted as saying on ESPN, having also confirmed his interest in Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey. "He (Allen) is a very talented player, which everyone knows, but there is nothing more at the moment. When players come to a club such as Liverpool it is never straightforward."
Rodgers and Swansea have a written agreement stating Liverpool cannot instigate a move for Swansea players for 12 months after he quit South Wales for Anfield in June.

But that has not stopped talk of a deal happening, with Swansea sources conceding a bid of around £15m for their prized asset could alter the situation.
New Swans boss Michael Laudrup last week admitted a significant offer could tempt the club into cashing in, despite the financial health of the club meaning they do not have to sell.
But the Dane did insist he wants Allen as part of his plans for next season, the youth team product with three years left to run on his current Swansea deal.

I said if we want him, then we should pay what they want (or thereabouts). But when I said that Swansea can ask for what they want it was in reference to the tweet that you posted, thats why I quoted it. Therefore I was thinking that they want around the same as what we paid for Henderson. I.e 16 million quid

Allen has agreed personal terms with#LFC. Won't sign until Swansea, who have agreed to sell him, find a replacement.
