Jamaica or England?

Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore says he is waiting for Liverpool teenager Raheem Sterling to decide if he wants to play for the Reggae Boyz or England at international level.
Sterling has enjoyed an impressive start to the season for Liverpool and has already been tipped to become a future senior England international.
However, the 17-year-old was born in Jamaica and Whitmore has confirmed interest has been shown in persuading the winger to play for the Reggae Boyz.
Whitmore believes Sterling, who has played for England Under 19s, has a lot to offer Jamaica if he decides to represent the country of his birth.
"We definitely showed an interest in Sterling before and we are just waiting on him now for the go-ahead," Whitmore told STAR Sports.
"We have seen him a number of times, he is a quality player with a lot to offer this programme, but it's up to him and the door is open.
"I don't want to go into any further details but as I said he is definitely someone we have our eyes on and it's all up to him now."

Barnes picked England, I think Sterling will do the same. Read somewhere that his mother wants him to play for Jamaica.

Does anyone else want him to play for Jamaica just so he plays in fewer tournaments? Although thinking about it he would be travelling further.

He should snub them for the 'z' in boyz. They'll be playing with gold chains round their necks, next, the great girlz blouses.

Yeah but 12 hour flights to play qualifiers isn't exactly ideal either.

What was Rodgers saying the other day about how England weren't going to rush him?! This is too soon.

Stupid. Maybe they just want to give him a few minutes in an official match so he's tied to England.

I agree, it's just to commit him to England, good luck to him.

I see Downing is out of favour in the squad now. Not going well for Stu is it

I dont see a problem, he's not going to train so wont be playing but he is being eased into the setup. Similar to what kenny did with a few of the youngsters last season.

Of course it's an attempt to tie him to the England squad. I love how England call him up, as soon as they got wind that Jamaica had done the same. Classic.

i am sure this call up will cost us a few bob as QPR will have added some add-ons. Good on Raheem - his dream of playing for england could come true.

One can understand Hogdson's thinking behind the callup though. Instead of calling up someone like Jarvis or Kightly who would be lucky to even earn a couple of caps in th future, he turned to players whom he believes has an international future.

I think it's great, Woy was on 5 Live before talking about the selection and said unless there is an absolute disaster with the other players going down with a bug, he won't be near being selected, and it was just to bring him along for the experience and to mix with the squad.
It will be a huge boost for his confidence, which must be at an all time high as it is.
If he got 15 mins it wouldn't do any harm.
Brendan just doesn't want him playing another full match, which I can understand, and this in no way makes him look daft or would be something I imagine he could be unhappy with.
It also looks good for other kids at or thinking of coming to Liverpool

regards

Livermore was one of the five debut-makers against Italy, although the arrivals of Sterling and Lallana, with just five Premier League starts between them, were the real eye-catchers.

For some, the selections were a symptom of a Premier League in which less than a third of players in action on the weekend before the international break were English.

Hodgson added: "I'd prefer to have a reverse of that statistic, with 66% of players being English, of course I would. But that's not going to happen. We have to accept that.

"And there are 10 players, including a number of automatic selections, who aren't here.

"I know when I bring in Raheem, I'm causing headlines to be written. I understand and take that responsibility. His rise is meteoric but I can only hope he takes it in the right way, that it's great to be invited into the England set-up but mustn't think he's made it.

"He has to try, next time, to make sure he is one of the original 23. We'll be watching him before October to see whether he'll merit a place in the squad."

Am I the only person who finds it ironic that when Hodgson was here (shudders) Sterling would never have got within a hundred miles of the first team squad. But now he's Ing-ur-lund manager he calls him up? Fuck Hodgson and fuck Ing-ur-lund.

Hodgson did give Kelly and Eccleston a chance he also played our entire reserve team against Northampton.
