I know the hype had already died down at Everton before City bizarrely decided to bestow a huge sum of money on Everton for him.

He's had a few games since but is well and truly on the peripheries there and in all likelihood is stagnating even further.

So, can he still become a top player or is that potential gone?

That said, we can't afford to give someone like Rodwell (or Shelvey) two seasons to learn on the job. They have to be competent straight away and get stronger from there.

I don't think he'd need to 'learn' - the kid played rather regularly for Everton (if memory serves me well) and he's been decent in most if his outings in that pressure cooker of an atmosphere. I think he'd do a job well here, and do it will. He'll probably be at Everton next year for 10 mill!

I agree with you LTW. He'll be a useful addition for us.
However, is he not a blue in soul? Will he come to us?
I can also see him back in blue with Barkley going the other way (to one of the Manc clubs)

He doesn't have that bite in his game to be a top central midfielder. He's too nicey nice.

As a blue said on the radio city phone in a few years ago "he's got all the ability in the world but he's a bit of a pussy that lad. Too much Birkdale and not enough Kirkdale"

(For any non scousers, Birkdale is an extremely posh area near southport, where Rodwell is from I believe. Kirkdale is a shithole full of hard knocks, not a nice place!)

A mate of mine who's a bluenose was chuffed to bits with the money they got for him. Reckons Rodwell's a decent enough player but not likely ever to reach the heights many were predicting at the time of his transfer.
