I see these situations as a good way of identifying who the massive bellends on this site are. I had a pretty good idea already, but it's nice to have it confirmed. There's even been a couple I wasn't aware of who have crawled out of the woodwork. It's a good job I'm not a moderator, or a whole bunch of posters would have flashing "bellend" avatars by now.
I'm afraid I would have to defer to someone with the requisite skills to make one up for me. I'm a bit of a useless bellend in that respect.
I think people are saying that it's not really as simply and black and white as saying "he" is a failure, there's clearly alot of other surrounding circumstances as to why we haven't got some of these players, mainly that better placed clubs have beaten us to them, that's a fairly understandable reason. Maybe the approach needs to change, maybe things need to be more hush hush, but that's fairly impossible in this day and age. Saying it's all down to Ayre and assuming that all of these players were more or less there for the taking (for us) is clearly wide of the mark.
