Hendo everytime,
He's our leader, the driving force behind the success, Klopps Sergeant Major,
If you were playing Sheffield United or Burnley away and you knew they were going to battle you all the way and fight for everything, try thier best to kick you out of the game, Or you were playing away at the bluenose or mancs, with 70000 screaming inbreds
Would you rather line up along side Hendo and Milner or Keita and Ox?

There’s been a couple of games where we were up against it, needing a goal or to lift and Henderson has been subbed. Regardless of his position on the pitch, subbing off your captain in these situations speaks volumes.

His place is definitely under threat both in the short and long term.

He's knackered mate. Absolutely fucked. Regardless of the situation, he's been subbed at about 70 in loads of games, cod he has little to offer after that point.

The lad needs a real fucking rest. I highly doubt that he'll get that this weekend though.

As for his long term, I think if Keita can become the player we want him to be, & Klopp believes him to be, then he'll most likely take Hendo's place in a lot of games, but I think Hendo has a role to play for a long while yet.

He’s had a much bigger rest than Gini of Fabhino

All men are not created equal. He's undoubtedly fucking knackered, whether he's had more rest than his teammates or not.

I'd also bet good money he covers more ground than either of the other two as well.

Folks often want Hendo out as he doesn’t have a stellar you tube highlights real. What he does for the team is often overlooked and usually missed when he’s out for a while.

He was better at the tail end of last season. However this season he is back to the Hendo with no threat whatsoever. Has his position changed again?

He doesn't create, he doesn't shoot, he runs around alot and puts in an occasional cross. Not good enough imo for a midfielder playing for a top team.

Much has been said about our midfielders offering little goals. Hendo has been a big part of that problem. Each of Keita, Ox, Gini offers more of a goal threat. Even Lallana seems rejuvenated after the scums match.

Hendo should be very worried about his spot in the team.

Since he came on at the 60th minute against Southampton on April 5th and changed the game, Hendo produced 6 goal involvements (1 goal and 5 assists) in the closing 11 games of the season – many of them absolutely crucial in our quest for silverware. Had he kept that kind of production up, coupled with all the intangibles he brings, this would not even be a discussion.

Unfortunately this season, also after 11 games played as it happens, his goal contribution number is a big fat zero. That's just not acceptable for the most advanced of the 3 midfielders, the one who is supposed to offer the most support to the front 3. Klopp will give him every chance, but at some point he will have to make a switch, especially since we're not lacking in midfield options. The Leicester game, when Gini was given a run out in the advanced midfield position, while Milner played closer to Fabinho, was a clear warning sign. Hendo wasn't able to show any improvement in the next game vs United, while Ox, Keita, Lallana and Gini have all been contributing recently – I think his position is very much under threat now and if he's dropped he can have no complaints.

I'm a Hendo fan ... but the above is basically the reality facing Hendo ...
Either he's knackered - as FFF says - and needs a break or two to recharge his batteries and be more imposing on games as he was during that 11 game stretch last year, or he's very likely to find himself as an impact sub late in games ...

I think Ox and Keita will be utilized home and away against teams we should be looking to walk through, the bigger games Klopp will rely on his tried and tested midfield more.

Henderson, Milner and Gini help the fullbacks out a lot more than the other two.

Don't understand the question. Surely everyone can see that Fab aside the other two mid positions are up for grabs every game, depending on the opposition, Klopp's tactics for said game, and rotation.

I think henderson needs playing further up the pitch

He's proven over the years he can break forwards and move between the lines , he just doesn't do it enough , if he plays in games against cloggers like utd, then fine just give him license to play further up the pitch having someone play Infront of fabinho to pass the ball left and right and jog about does us or him no favours

I keep thinking about the midfield 3 for Spurs and thereafter. United and Genk were 2 very different games, but one thing you could argue they had in common was that in both the opposition managers surprised Klopp with their tactical choice (3-4-1-2 with Pereira as a hard-pressing #10 for United; 4-4-2 with the speed and physical power of 2 strikers up front for the Belgians) and both managed to cause us problems and disrupt our game somewhat. No doubt there will be more of the same with Spurs. This is the price of being at the top – everyone knows how you play and keeps sharing notes on how to exploit any smallest weakness. It feels like the rest of the teams are catching up more and more with us and when that happens, maybe it's time to switch things around to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

The 4-3-3 with Gini controlling and Hendo running into space has served us exceptionally well since the end of last season into the beginning of this one – but maybe it's starting to outlive its usefulness. One common theme opponents have picked up on is exploiting the space to Fabinho's right and left, the shared area of responsibility between the other CMs and the attacking full-backs, who are usually too far ahead in the attacking phase to cover these areas when the ball is lost. Against Leicester (probably the best footballing side we've came up against in the last few weeks) we saw Milner covering well for both Fabinho and Robertson, while Mane was switched to the right to defend against Chilwell's runs. Spurs will present a similar challenge with plenty of fast attackers on both flanks and some decent creativity in the middle.

In attack, we usually run into problems when Firmino is forced to drop deep to help the midfield keep hold of the ball, thus leaving us with no focal point up front. It's crucial to have at least one midfielder who is comfortable on the ball in the advanced areas, can drag the defenders towards him and then lay it off to one of the front 3 to do their thing (Mane's goal vs Genk is a textbook example – Gini was that midfielder who instigated the whole move, laying the ball off to Bobby just as the defense was about to collapse on him). This is what we missed so badly for most of the United game. I don't know enough to recommend a specific solution for all these multiple problems: teams becoming familiar with our "default" system, space on both sides of Fabinho being exploited and lack of a secondary focal point in attack. But I suspect many of the most viable solutions would include Gini moving further forward, while one of Keita, Hendo or Milner can help Fabinho expand and widen the "no go" zone in front of our defense where any opposition player with the ball is instantly getting tackled. Ox or Lallana could be an alternative to Gini in the advanced midfield role, but I think it's Wijnaldum who would give us the best balance. Our only midfielder nominated for the Ballon D'Or is simply too good to keep cleaning up other players' messes, I say it's time to free the Gini!

Yes he can do what you have suggested, and I think we know the issue in the Man United game is that Klopp instructed Gini to be the advanced midfielder - and Hendo to hover around Fab acting as the support cleaner. I have come to the conclusion and there is plenty of evidence - when faced with teams that can play football and can pass the ball between the lines - it does not suit us to play Hendo/Gini/Fab combination.

Henderson, gets trapped playing a deeper role and when he is pressed hard by the opposition - and despite his other abilities there are just too many games where he is completely unable to take advantage of the situation and either he passes back or puts the defence under huge pressure. The point when a player is being pressed is also a moment where space opens up if he can make the right forward pass - think Gini's little move in the Barca game, or Keita/Ox doing a slight dribble etc. to get out of being pressed and moving that ball forward.

I know everyone keeps barking on about our record this season, but much of that is down to our defensive play by Matip, VVD, and Fab - the three of them have been world class, but they are made to work harder than City defenders ever are. We are a team that is hard to score against.

I also think that Klopp is not afraid of dropping Hendo. He has not gone out in the market and bought Hendo, and he would not have aquired him if he wasn't here upon his arrival. Hendo is not the ultimate Klopp player. So for screaming out for Ox and Keita it is clear that Klopp want to use them more. He brought them in as they fit his style of play. Fabinho the same, and he has learned the play and is now undroppable.
It was really interesting watching the previews to this weekend's game. That French guy on Sky (Lauren ?) speaks intelligently and with acuity and he insisted that we should go Fabs - Gini - Ox for the ability to dribble and run beyond their midfield/defence. I can see that is what Klopp intends long term (not necessarily Ox but his dalliance with Fekir and buying Keita also shows what he's looking for) and that Hendo will definitely have a place in the squad but no longer as a guaranteed starter.

He shouldn't be.

From our squad :
He has played the 11th most mins so far this season in the PL and ditto in the CL (literally almost half 5 or 6 others) and he didn't have an African Cup to play in last Summer. Last year he played the 9th most minutes in the CL and 9th most in the PL, again with over a 1,000 mins less than a few.

All stats from WhoScored.

I agree. The midfielders should all have some gas in their tank. I take it that he has had a busy schedule with internationals but I feel he will have lots of stamina going into december. However it will be fine if Og, Keita and even Lallana steps up and take their share of the hard work also.

This thread went well..

Loved his reaction to scoring the equaliser..

Excellent Today

I thought it must have been Bobby the way he'd found an impossible gap with his left peg, but then I saw the armband and realised Henderson had miss-hit it

This doesn't really work if the comedy is supplied by a comparison with Firmino, who has scored a grand total of two more Premier League goals* than Henderson so far this season, and hasn't really found that many possible or impossible gaps

*three so far

I get all that, but i think his style of play is much more physically demanding than that of others. He always seems to be charging around in short bursts, always changing direction. Gotta be knackering

Who we criticising for the Arsenal game then lads? Feel like Brewster's not putting a shift in for the U23s myself

Yeah, Bobby is a one in three striker, so he's playing to form. We pointed this out when you said he was just a shit Dirk Kuyt, who was a one in five striker.
