Fat Sam has downing it again - Super Stu signs for West Ham

Coincidentally the one Dalglish didn't sign out of the three.

WHAT A SURPRISE THAT YOU THINK THAT

I don't know why you're giving it large about Macca's devotion to Kenny/criticism of Rodgers, given you lay into Kenny at *every* opportunity, aren't you just arguing the toss about the same thing? Rodgers signed Joe Allen FWIW, who looks equally as perplexing and underwhelming a signing as Downing does and was pretty much as criminally overpaid for, infact at least Downing had some pedigree, the fee for Allen was grabbed out of thin air. They've both made questionable decisions, you just seem to think it's groundbreaking to lay into someone most consider to be a club legend and one of the symbols of the club.

I don't know why such figures become a specimen of detachment, as part of this great "oh look at how critical and cynical we are compared to you mad devotees!" kind of too-cool-for-school attitude. We get it, you think Kenny was a disaster and seem to delight in reiterating the fact. Maybe when Gerrard doesn't win the league and hangs up his boots, you can join Rosco in telling the forum how he wasn't that great after all.

Or put another way, let it lie Ryan, it's getting fucking boring.

I'm no Allen fan but his deal is nowhere near the absolute atrocity that Downings is.

If you genuinely believe his 'track record' in any sense justifies the fee then I don't really know what to say.

well done, miss the fucking point. He had a reasonable rep but was worth about half what we paid. Allen cost not much less and was as comparable a financial fuck up, on the face of it, as was Borini.

I like Rodgers alot, but managers make fuckups. Ryan could show some respect for what he's done for the club, instead of delighting in revelling in the fact that he failed, I don't agree with Macca 100%, but Ryan is laying into him for the same sort of ofattitude and supposed bias that he puts around the forum regularly. Pot kettle black and all that shit.

I think the Allen comparison will detract from the thrust of your post Mark because I'm don't think it holds up - not yet anyways.

We all know Dowing and Carroll were expensive failures, but Carroll was a panic buy. Henderson has imporoved but wasn't worth the initial fee, neither were Allen or Borini. All three might yet prove their worth, but at their respective fees, it's fair to say that we over-speculated and forked out more than was necessary. I'm sure Ryan has laid into Enrique as a dud regularly, is it hard to fathom why? Not really, because it wouldn't complete the set otherwise. Like the near condemnation of how we did in the cups, it's painfully transparent what the agenda is, so to be pulling up Macca's eagerness to defend Kenny is a bit fucking rich when it comes to going overboard either way.

Keniget - Exactly. IMO the main problem with the Allen transfer is that it looks like a luxury when we had/have genuine necessities to satisfy. I don't think the deal itself can even be said to be a bad one yet, let alone some kind of Downing-level disaster. £15m is more than I think he was worth - I think we could have found at least as good a signing for less than that - but it might yet turn out to be decent value if he improves and plays for us for another 5-10 years.

What the fuck is your point ?

Ryan thinks Kenny fucked up ? Well he did. No amount of stupid comparisons and comments about all managers fucking up changes that.

Kenny and Commolli were given the funds for us to make a big jump up the table. They fucked up. The only reason to look back at it now is to learn from it - which you don't seem to have done when you make comments about Downing's track record justifying the fee.

I think Ryan will keep mentioning Kenny's transfers as long as there's someone defending them.

Did I say that? You fucking clueless oaf, READ IT AGAIN. I said Ryan is ripping into Macca over defending Kenny, you know, Ryan who's championing £15m Joe Allen all over the shop - they all make mistakes.

Ryan is the first to give it out all over the forum about his likes and dislikes (cf his recent posts 5 years down the line about us all being proved wrong about how great Lucas is, lol), so it's a bit fucking rich him pulling up Macca for a bit of bias. The end. That was it, no fucking point about Downing being a good buy, fucking brains. We all know it was a mistake, there's no point trying to justify it, but every other manager we've had has made transfer mistakes too.

For someone so adept at referencing everything you fucking read, you seem pretty dim when it comes to referencing a 5 sentence paragraph on a forum.

Well.. Technically we made a big jump up the table! We were quite low when he took over.

Well, Macca is really up shit creek without a paddle trying to defend Kenny. He basically embarrassed himself - the signings, the press conferences, the Suarez defence, those fucking t-shirts ! he made us a laughing stock.

Joe Allen is just an average footballer. It's not totally stupid to defend him

And you've gone from justifying the fee for Downing to claiming nobody is trying to justify it. So maybe read your own post again. (insert obligatory angry phrase here)

There's no learning going on. It's just relentless sniping and sneering and ad hominem attacks. Let's not try to excuse it as being about lessons, unless they're in megalomania.

Downing should stay . After a good season his confidence is high and Brendan knows how to use him. Nobody will offer over £5 million so no sale

Considering he wouldn't look out of place with Barcelona, and his confidence is sky high, why do you think no one will offer such a low fee for such a player?

It's hard to take this seriously given you continually argued Downing was a good signing too Mark.

Besides, are we not allowed to discuss the fact that Dalglish wasted a lot of money?

Calm down you big fag.

Wanna reacharound?

Downing was mediocre at Boro, sporadic at Villa and has been largely poor for us. He has over 30 caps for England, can't remember any significant contributions there.
The fact that we paid 20M for him was absolutely unbelievable and wasteful in the extreme. Couple this with putting him on 70k a week and its just plain insanity.
Nice guy, low standard Prem player, 5M about right.

80K a week.

Did Dalglish negotiate the transfer fee? His wages?
Is there a reason why you constantly target Dalglish instead of Comolli, who still insists after leaving Liverpool that they were good signings that will reap rewards for Liverpool in the long run.

So Kenny had nothing to do with it? Kenny didn't want Downing?

The fact that we even wanted Downing was wrong.
