Fat Sam has downing it again - Super Stu signs for West Ham

Talks between West Ham and Downing are at an advanced stage over terms, with one of the stumbling blocks being the player's wages of around £80,000 a week.

But Liverpool are prepared to pay up some of his remaining contract to facilitate the deal, and it could be finalised as early as next week.

We seem to be doing this A LOT in recent memory. Don't know why but it really bugs me.

It's actually been quite common (in certain circumstances) for decades, but the difference now is that it gets mentioned more.

For us as well? Overpaying a player in terms of their actual ability and finding it tough to offload them as a result?

Heh, can you imagine if Downing and Carroll suddenly clicked and starting assisting / scoring for fun.

You may laugh but Mark continually insisted that we couldn't judge whether FIFTY FIVE MILLION POUNDS was well invested or not until "they get a run of games together."

If Downing moves to WH, you can bet your house on them combining for goal against us this season.

And to be fair to him he was right it wasn't fair to judge without a fair run of games... as it turned out they were indeed the shite we feared they would be but that's not to say Mark was wrong to say what he did.

I fucking hated our signing of Downing, spat feathers at length, doesn't mean I take any pleasure in his floppage.

Course

Course I did. Remind me. Though as Moby said, it's a fair point anyway, they didn't.

Anyway, I'm sure you've got post it notes stuck on the archives somewhere, dig them up and show me where I "continuously" say it, right after you give us an update on how Hayden Mullen's fantastic career is going. Not that I'd be able to read it though, given I'm so overcome with embarrassment about how amazing Lucas is and how the majority of us have been shown up because of his 5 minutes of above average form, about 18 months ago.

Apparently Rodgers now wants him to stay and he's not going acc to a usually reliable guy on Twitter.

We're obviously not signing anyone.

Cue him scoring the winner against Stoke.

Be great but it still wouldn't make him good enough.

I mean i'm sure he's a nice guy and everything but if we're to genuine contenders for top 4 we need better, much better.

I've sold on my season ticket since we signed this useless prick. I am made I've done it again this season.

Downing isn't the only player who can be questioned.

Johnson and Enrique are suspect imo. I rate the latter to a certain extent but he's very frustrating at times.

I like Lucas but i'd be lying if i said i'm super confident he'll have a great season.
Gerrard's 33..we cant expect miracles from him any more. As for Henderson and Allen we've seen glimpses of their abilities but glimpses aren't enough for a team looking to return to the Champions League. Then there's Borini who seems to be an injury prone goalshy striker who cost us £11m.

Step up to the plate lad
