So Kenny had nothing to do with it? Kenny didn't want Downing?

The fact that we even wanted Downing was wrong.
Wenger wants Suarez. He might get him, or he might not get him..... It is down to the directors to sort out the paperwork and potential valuation. If the Downing fee was not defendable by the directors, it was down to Comolli to put the foot down. What else was his job/involvement?

Are you going to see the game today?

This is all great n'all, but I wish we'd fucking buy someone else, we're looking a bit lightweight as it is.

Heh, can you imagine if Downing and Carroll suddenly clicked and starting assisting / scoring for fun.

It's like we were looking that great with Downing in the sife either...
Losing Downing will not make any difference, at...........all.
But it will leave an opening in the squad for the likes of Alberto, Ibe and Sterling.

West Ham on brink of signing Stewart Downing from Liverpool after fresh talks
West Ham are close to signing Stewart Downing from Liverpool after reigniting negotiations for the winger.

A bid of £5million has already been lodged for the former England international, but talks are continuing with Liverpool now hoping to raise nearer £6million before they agree a sale. It is believed negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Downing would need tempting to move to London having earlier rejected Sam Allardyce’s advances, but he is now much more open to the possibility of a switch to Upton Park. Should West Ham reach an agreement, it is likely Downing will arrive in the capital.

Newcastle asked about the possibility of a loan move for Downing earlier in the transfer window and it is clear his initial preference was a move back to the North East, but they have shown no willingness to match the current asking price.

Downing is in the Liverpool squad who are in Dublin for a pre-season fixture against Celtic.

This would be amazing. I can't even bring myself to hate Downing, he's just a non-entity to me.

My lasting memory of Stewie D will always be the thread where we created all the profile pics in MS Paint & we bonded as a site to use them as avatars.

Then I said I'd keep mine until he scored a league goal - the fucket.

I'd bump the thread.... but....

Well, Macca is really up shit creek without a paddle trying to defend Kenny. He basically embarrassed himself - the signings, the press conferences, the Suarez defence, those fucking t-shirts ! he made us a laughing stock.

Joe Allen is just an average footballer. It's not totally stupid to defend him

And you've gone from justifying the fee for Downing to claiming nobody is trying to justify it. So maybe read your own post again. (insert obligatory angry phrase here)

Easy....

NOBODY on this planet disliked the Downing signing more than myself, I found it distasteful seeing his minor perturbations in form and "progress" being lauded as some kind of vindication but really....I think Mark was wrong about Downing but he is dead right about blatantly slagging Kenny, it aint right.

I'm just happy we look to be getting rid, primarily because I hated the mediocrity that Downing epitomises to me as a football fan. I hope with the cash he frees up we can at least reduce our losses a bit and give a youngster more of a shot.

The transfer fee, which could rise to £6m based his on appearances for the Londoners

Talks between West Ham and Downing are at an advanced stage over terms, with one of the stumbling blocks being the player's wages of around £80,000 a week.

But Liverpool are prepared to pay up some of his remaining contract to facilitate the deal, and it could be finalised as early as next week.
