Most claiming on twitter that Newcastle not interested in Downing.

Cue West ham loan bid.

£5,000 000 is much better than having him go on loan just to have somebody else pay his wages, which is what I was afraid it would come down to. If someone, anyone, offers £5M I will take it gladly.

Mos Dof Mos Def, Im not pressing any panic buttons or anything, the players who have gone are our weaker performers and you would hope Mr Rodgers choices of chaff to seperate.
Reina being the exception but I dont think we have weakened to be honest.

Im not sure at this stage wether I would rather we keep the Suarez or sign two top players.
Hopefully both but my hope would be if we keep Suarez we STILL get a couple and if he leaves we get 3 or 4 top buys in.
Im maybe living in a fantasy world, but lets say we were given 25m to spend this window (about average) so far we have spent next to nothing.

Yeah, I think we need to sign a couple of very good players to keep this from being a fairly disappointing window.

At the moment it feels like we're pretty much reliant on existing personnel improving in order to see any meaningful progress this season.

Downing spotted with Big Andy yesterday:

It feels like every single summer we're praising managers for the players they've managed to get rid of.

And always they're high earners we can't get rid of who replaced other high earners we couldn't get rid of. Well, least we're not offering to triple players' salaries *this* summer.

Liverpool offer to triple Diego Costa’s salary to bring him to Anfield [Marca]

Saturday, August 3rd, 2013

The possibility of Luis Suarez leaving Liverpool has become greater and Brendan Rodgers appears desperate to ready a replacement for his Uruguyan star.
With a €25 million release clause, Liverpool have pinpointed Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa as their new big-name striker.
Spanish newspaper Marca reported on Saturday that Liverpool are willing to triple his current salary to €4 million a year.
Despite this offer seeming impossible to refuse, Costa is allegedly happy in Madrid and joining Liverpool would translate into him missing out on the opportunity of Champions League football.
The decision lies with the man himself over where his future will be.

That's very true. We've been continually signing players whose reputation is bigger than their game and also chopping and changing managers, that's the natural result. This summer so far the biggest excitement on this forum was when Carroll was sold, last season we cheered getting rid of Charlie Adam, Joe Cole and Aquilani.

20M transfer and 80K per week, and shipped out 2 years later to absolutely anyone who'll take him for 5M.

Good ole Kenny.

the 5m fee is probably just to cover the cost of his pay off . We just want him off the wage bill . Fucking shambles of a transfer .

The most depressing thing is that, even more than Keane or Aquilani, or Diouf et al, anyone with a bit of sense could see it coming. Absolute fucking disaster, worst I've known as a supporter.

Didn't want him and will be glad when he's gone, the price of 5M might just be low enough to get his wages off the bill... Good news a IMO.

And Commoli has the nerve to come out and make his comments this week. He and KK signed a 27 year old for 20m among other dross.

It's best not to think about these things, at least if he's not playing for us I won't be constantly reminded of how fucking wasteful we've been.

was assaidi a flop ? he wasn't given enough playing time to be a flop .
