No Modo, Downing at least provided some worth and played games.

Don't want to turn this into a discussion but Aquilani played half a season scored goals and got assists.
Remind me how Downing, "PL proven", did?

He played just under 30 games and scored 2 goals and got 6 assists.

Downing has played over 90 games and scored 7 goals and got 11 assists.

Hard luck on being wrong.

Where it counts:

18 games 1 goal 6 assists

Downing
36 games 0 goals 0 assists.

£5m + what we save on his wages isn't bad at all for a cry baby who isn't a very good footballer.

This pictures are dedicated to @Modo, Downing's #1 fan at SCM

It's not often I'm wrong so I'll hold me hands up this time and admit I didn't realise how far off the mark I was going to be when I said we'd be trying to offload him 18 months after buying him for half what we paid.

I know financially it isn't in the same league but the Degen 'free' transfer always struck me as a ridiculous way to give a few Swiss lads a hand out

The downing transfer was a stupid one for me. Everyone knew he was shit. He's been shit for years and yet we felt he was worth £20m Fuck me rafa could have gotten him for £12m and didn't want him. I thought the carroll and hendo transfers were also stupid but at least i could justify it in my brain and lie to myself by thinking "well they're still young and could easily improve". But downing we've all seen him for years and he's always been very average and was never gonna get any better. I knew when we spent £70m on those 3 that we were already fucked. How Kenny thought they were worth it is beyond me. Why he wanted downing is beyond me. Then you buy him and never play him alongside carroll when you brought him for his crosses just made it worse.

Well your stats are wrong then, they look more like this.

Donkey
18 games 1 goal 6 assists

Downing
65 games 3 goals 5 assists.

So Aquilani was the bigger flop.

Based on those stats Aquilani scored and assisted more frequently than Downing in terms of playing time.

Whatever the case, arguing over who was the bigger flop seems a little pointless at this stage. They're both shithouses at the end of the day.

Thats irrelevant, we're talking about their careers at the club, not the one season. Downing provided some worth last season, Alberto provided very little at all.

This dude's kinda got a point...

@BrianDurand56: I think Stewart Downing deserves a bit more respect from Liverpool supporters. Compare the shit he's getting with Suarez's standing ovation.

Coincidentally the one Dalglish didn't sign out of the three.

WHAT A SURPRISE THAT YOU THINK THAT

He was a worse signing than Downing though (in hindsight), no one will ever be worse than Andy though.
