Europa League Final: LFC vs Sevilla

We lost the initiative right at the start of the second half.
Indeed, and Jurgen was very slow to change it I thought.
I would have brought on Allen/Lucas Henderson after fifty five minutes.
Then again I am a knob typing on a laptop and Klopp is a millionaire multi successful manager

Gene said it earlier "weak minded". Some are nice boys, some are nobheads, some are talented, some are flattering to deceive - what they all have in common is that they're weak minded

Fair bit of overreaction here we played really well in the first half 3-0 wouldn't have flattered us and were within a Moreno of winning. Toure Can Milner and Clyne were all pretty good I thought

Agree with that, but it makes our collapse in the second half all the more disappointing. We weren't helped by the officials, but frankly we didn't deserve to win anyway in the end.

Yes, the manager didnt contribute to anything getting this squad into 2 finals in 6-7 months. Without buying a player or having a pre season.
Not a miracle but the work of a great manager.

Its not the end of the World losing this final, although it feels like it now.
Klopp will make us successfull, that I'm quite certain of.
The rebuilding and making it "his" team starts this summer.
Next season eh..

I wouldn't go so far as a miracle. We rode our luck to get to the final though.

But i'm guessing most will see it as miracle work by the manager start to fool themselves all over again

Well I'm a bit long in the tooth to expect miracles but I think Klopp's improved what we have. Hopefully further changes will improve us again. As Klopp has said himself it will take time. I think the disappointed are the fans, I would expect Klopp to much more grounded.

There's no doubt he has few 'stars' to work with at the moment and is going to have to change that himself.

Yeah. Shite second half. Klopp will concentrate on the league next season, fine, but for all his happy clappy bullshit, his record in finals is as shit as it gets.
Whereas the number of finals the previous manager got to was?

Give it a rest, since you're really are being pathetic or showing your true colours.

the worst thing about tonight, and most may disagree but it didn't feel as disappointing as it should have done...losing a final.

I think it's because we didn't show fight.

games where you lose undeservingly showing fight is heartbreaking...but tonight just wasn't it.

carling cup final was harder to take...underdogs and we put up a fight.

I haven't read the thread, so apologies if I'm reiterating what others have said.

I get Moreno’s shite, I didn’t need to see another hapless display to educate myself on that. But even then, this scapegoating of him alone as the reason for losing is worthless. Same for the referee’s. Especially from supposedly knowledgeable ex-pro’s in Carragher, McManaman, Owen, etc… They should know better. It wasn’t Moreno who let Sevilla fucking blitz us for 25 straight minutes. Sure he made a cunt of himself with his contributions, but as the last fucking man. Where in good fuck was the authority in midfield to stem the flow, or the leadership to kill the game? And what the fuck was Klopp watching? ‘We lost control badly’. Yes Jurgen we did, what did you do to stop it happening in front of your eyes? Moreno’s bit-role was brutal for sure, but of far greater concern to me was how this team of experienced players couldn’t get a hold on the game. Sevilla are good, very good, but they’re not 1970’s Brazil for fuck’s sake. Slow the game down. Stem the tide of runners; provide greater cover to Clyne who’s getting doubled up on.

And my argument for why Arsenal never win anything also stands true for this Liverpool side; there’s not enough fucking winners in the team. Milner? Toure? That’s about yer lot – and not by coincidence, they’re the only two that did something worth their place tonight. The rest of them are experienced guys sure, but experienced at winning sweet fuck all. Pound for pound, I’d rate our 11 up against Sevilla’s on paper. You could argue the toss here or there about some of them, but mostly they’re on a similar level. Sevilla’s team though are fucking packed full of winners. Guys that know how and when to raise the tempo on the big stage. Look at the pace they played at for that 25 minute spell; look at the speed of the game, that doesn’t come about from nothing – If you’re a neutral watching that shit you’ve got to be impressed with how they took complete control. We had a bunch of meek lambs getting fucking mauled, with fucking one of them able to hold his hand up in defiance – and he’s a 35 year old defender out of contract in 2 weeks. That’s embarrassing.

Our two best players on the night, both of whom we got from Man City on a free. And they did something on the big stage; same as against Dortmund and Villareal - both of them outstanding. I've been critical of both, but that's what you get when you bring winners in; they don't let you down in the moments that count. The flipside is buying flair from the likes of Hoffenheim, Southampton, Bayer Leverkusen - they don't know what winning is.

Can, Coutinho, Moreno, Lovren, Firmino, Clyne, etc – All rabbits in the headlights when the pressure came. Wave after wave of attack, and they’re slackjawed and shitting themselves. Two goals from the Sevilla captain out of midfield. That’s leadership. Taking the game on with 45 mins to go and winning it. Banega, took the fucking piss. Gameiro, couldn’t get near him. All their elite experienced players pretty much ignoring the opposition and refusing to lose. They’ve won this thing twice in a row, aren’t they content with that? Nope, cos winning breeds fucking winning. See what happened when they went 3 up? They fucking killed it. Two banks of 5, continuously get the ball out of play, slow the game, take time over free-kicks, lie down injured, and control shit. Game over. We didn’t even get the ball in their fucking box.

Why on earth does no one attempt to kill the game for us straight after conceding the first? Because they don’t know how to win. There’s a craft in winning, and it’s not doing drag backs 30 yards from goal Emre Can, it’s putting the ball into the fucking stand and re-setting.

They’ll either learn from it, or Klopp will buy guys who know what to do at the right time. I suspect it’ll be the latter.

Thank fucking God.

Barring a SAS fuelled tilt at the title we have been really consistent over the last 6 years - consistently shit. We can sit and put the blame at certain isolated incidents of poor defending but the bottomline is that we are not good enough.

We have seen the same issues pop up against Villa in the semi final, the two finals this season, and several times in the league in the last two seasons whenever a team decides to have a go at us.

Several issues are recurring. The first shot on target often is a goal. Depending on the game we either blame one or more of Mignolet, Moreno, Skrtel, Sakho. I am hoping a change of personnel will address this issue. I think better defenders may help alleviate it to some extent but I think there is a coaching aspect here also.

Our midfield has no clue on how to control the game. I think we have one world class player in Sturridge and two solid reliable players in Clyne and Milner. The rest are different shades of grey. Too inconsistent and mentally weak to be the main players (spine) of a team which can compete at the highest level. Can and Origi are exciting talents but are 2 years away from potentially performing at the level we want on a regular basis.

It is easy to pin the blame on Rodgers and his lack of defensive nous and transfer acumen and then put blindly 100% trust in Klopp as he is magic. For all his lack of transfer acumen, If we had gotten couple of Rodgers targets - Bertrand and Delle Ali - we would have had two solid players to build the next great LFC team. I am not trying to absolve Rodgers here but there are factors other than him which has caused us to be in this position.

I think Klopp is an elite manager but there are limits to what he can achieve and transform. Even with all the transfers happening this summer there is a decent chance that we finish 5th or 6th next season. When that happens, I hope the owners and fans do not get impatient and turn the heat on the manager. Remember that the geniuses who thought Delle Alli was not worth 5 million whereas Balotelli and Markovic were worth close to 40 are still at the club.

What a depressing 2nd half. What a sad ending to the season.

Nothing to see here. Move on.

Next year? There is always next year! YNWA.

Stop Ross, Mark would get hung/hanged for less.

Great post by Ryan. It's dead weird that when we lose, posters would rather turn on each other than flesh out how we lost.
