At the beginning of this season I said I'd have more fun watching us lose this season than previous. The opposite has been the case. When the game goes away from us, we're depressing to watch. When we're on we're as good as anyone, and we won't hesitate to beat the shit out of the physically challenged.
It's the drink talking of course, but I think we're on to something. There's a reason we're hearing Benitez chants of late. Yes, some of it is a hilarious appreciation of irony, and the rehashing of the thorn we were in Chelsea's side, but some of it is just an appreciation, and a resonance with the times. There's a sense, when times are good, that this team is going somewhere, and it's a feeling, when it's on, that is reminiscent of the early days under Rafa. I really felt like we were building something. Of course we all want to desperately believe that, but its starting to feel like we can make it true.
Watching coutinho today, is there any doubt why we're hearing Garcia chants? Very different players in some ways, but in style there are some similarities. Short arse with the build of a jockey, the odd random pass, the odd flick to no one, but the sense of some brilliance about to happen. What is past is prologue.
And then we'll go and lose to villa or some nonsense, of course.
If we hang on to Suarez this summer, sort the defense a bit, and add some talent on the wings, we'll be back next season. Lots of ifs there, and our transfers are often quite shit, and we can get it terribly wrong, but when we get it right, we get it so right. Torres... Suarez. One more big win without losing Suarez, (and who's to say that hasn't happened somewhat with Sturridge) and we will continue to shit all over the shit teams and look rubbish against the teams who can challenge our passing game. There will just be a lot less of them.
The momentum will build. The way we play, fear is our best weapon We keep dismantling teams and teams won't press so much. They'll sit back, and we will shit on them from a great height and sing songs.
