Some of the players are definitely using zonal. Someone in the first half (forget who) left the man he was marking completely when he ran into a zone occupied by Gerrard, leaving Gerrard on two players.

I would guess that some attackers are picked up by dedicated markers, whereas the rest of the team plays zonal. Rafa used the same system

It just fills you with confidence 😀

So repairing the lack of experience is to remove to International Captains which is hugely admired around Europe? I dont get it. In my eyes, it is not down to the CD. Carra has done a good job no doubt, but the way we defend ourselves as a team is a disgrace. looking at the Arsenal game for instanse. Everytime Reina had the ball he found one of the CDs which then again pushed it to a fullback, who either rolled it to Reina or to a CD. Best case would be roll it to a CM 20 mtr from our goalline who then tried to find someone. Arse could establish their pressline 20 meters from our goalline. And we tried to outplay that pressline. 20 meters from our goalline. Whenever we lost the ball it was deep inside our own half. So all their attacks started deep inside our half, and our attempts of attacking started around the 16 yard line. it is asking for trouble, and that we managed to keep it down to 2 against is a mystery.

They're not a partnership, and never will be. There's no innate understanding between them, or even a learned one, by the looks of things. I think Carra has more to offer this side at the moment than either of them, but that's really only a temporary measure. Ultimately, we need a new beasty centre back, who can complement one of Skrtel or Agger. Skrtel and Agger both have similar frailties, and that's been apparent for some time.

Thing is Del, by and large CB's are not expensive. We could/should have addressed this in january.

You may be right, but I expect the availability, and indeed the cost of such players, is prohibitive in the January window. It's a relatively small window and clubs are rarely willing to part with their prized assets halfway through a season, and even then it may be dependent on them being able to replace them. I think it's probably best addressed in the summer, but it should definitely be seen as a priority. Our ability to defend leads has been poor this season, and has probably cost us as many points as our lack of firepower.

Fuck off. What was Agger supposed to do?
It was both defenders fault. Where was Carra?

Did he manage to do it?
Yet aggers positioning allowed dzeko to get in on goal

If you're not going to mark up, what's the point of standing there?

Least Carra tried to prevent a goal. Agger couldn't even be arsed to Mark.

He took Dzeko out for our goal so evened it out.

I think he should have done better by not playing everyone onside and then losing his man by ball watching. It wasn't as bad as the other night though, and he's had an alright game besides that.

Agger is not without blame, but neither is Carra.
Carra went for the ball and Milner ran away from him. What Agger did wrong was letting Dzeko go and go for the ball.

And play everyone onside

Enrique needs to get with the program. He's defended very naively today. Milner almost never comes inside, yet he's getting cross after cross in with his right foot. Sort it out Jose.

EDIT: OOPSIE

Agger should be fined a weeks wages every time he shoots from outside the box, he can't defend, let alone shoot.
