I've never seen bias at this level before.

It's quite spectacular to behold khl. You're not even willing to concede an inch on anything that's not saying aggers the best ball playing defender in the league

We see it every time Agger comes up. I usually don't get involved. Now I can see why.

I think you guys are just polarizing the debate needlessly. It's a bit hypocritical to chastise KHL for exaggerating Agger's qualities when you guys are going in the other direction just as far if not further.

Stop making sense.. .it is not fun!!!

Is Del Serbian?

All you've done in this thread is prove you're a WUM Kristian. You ignored everything I said in my initial post and asked me to provide examples of defenders who can match Agger's footballing ability. I did that and now you want to argue over one of those examples. It was the same with mark. Each time you are humbled you simply alter the parameters of the discussion and start a new, petty argument, seemingly forgetting the point of the original discussion. Now you're trying to goad me with snide little comments. You're as bad as Glock, only I think he was more aware of it than you are.

*coulda told Jr.Windever all this shit yo !*

*If* we ever sign one, or both of those geezers from Ajax, it's all over.

Seriously - what is going on here?

At what point did we decide the primary function of a defender is his technical ability on the ball.

That's up there with thinking you should pick a centre forward based on his ability to defend corners - because the modern game requires forwards to defend a little bit.

It's like saying Ian Rush's greatest attribute was his the fact that he was our first line of defence - it wasn't, in case you're mental - putting the ball in the back of the net with astonishingly good consistency was - anything else was a bonus.

And so it is with Agger - and Skrtel - defend properly - then show us how good you are on the ball.

Well, it's not my fault Ryan's starting more Agger than Allen threads these days is it now?

PS I've just asked one of my best mates, who's Danish too, whether he thinks Agger is very good. He said yes, very.

You have all been ruled upon.

As Keni said this is really just going around in circles.
Khl is obviously a bit biased, as I would be if it was a Norwegian player, and the counterparts are equally biased in their direction. The truth is somewhere in between.

Agger is a good Premier League defender. He's good in the air, a good tackler and reads the game pretty well. The most suspect part of his defending skills is his positioning and marking.
He gets caught out to many times in our own box by the movement of the oppositions attackers.
This has lead to quite a few goals this season where he hasnt been close enough to his man or lost him completely. But he's a good defender. There is no doubt at all about that.

The ball playing skills is obviously exaggerated a bit aswell. He's a very good passer of the ball and has great technique. There are probably only 2-3 centre backs in the Premier League that are on the same level. But he's as much the culprit as Carra in giving away posession.
His decision making could need some work and his shooting reminds me of Riises final seasons these days. He also needs to know when to hit it long to relieve some of the pressure of the defence, be that a 60 yarder out for a throw in type of kick.

Is he an integral part of the defence? Yes he probably is. The stats with or without him in the team last season were pretty massive in his favour as we nearly didint concede any goals.
He hasnt turned into a bad defender its just that some of the goals are clearly his fault, and he desperatly needs to improve on that area.
And at the same time I dont think he's that essential to the build up play from the back that Rodgers likes that some are suggesting. The advantage he gives us when moving forward with ball shouldnt be underestimated as it unsettles the opposition, but as passing it around the back goes we could bring in another defender to that aswell. Agger shouldnt be kept on as a starter only because of his ability on the ball. His main job is defending.

The change of formation/philosophy shouldnt be underestimated either as the defence have been left a bit more exposed this season compared to last. Last year we defended with two banks of 4 and were at times hard to break down. At the same time we struggled to attack in numbers. This season we are scoring more goals but at the same time havent got the same balance quite right.

There is also the question about Reina and some of his mistakes this season.

To sum up I'd rather keep Agger and sell Skrtel this summer. One of the reasons is obviously that he's very good on the ball but also the fact that I think he's a good defender. Thats what makes him a starter imho. The mistakes can be dealt with and bring in a no nonsense defender that can play next to him and I think you'll find that our defence will shape up pretty nicely.
Get the midfield balance right aswell and that will help a lot.

Agger's qualities have had a lot of time to evidence themselves in our team. We've seen what he can and can't do, and we aren't seeing his biggest upside. It's undeniable that there is considerable talent there, so even though he ought to be at his peak, people will still see potential there, whether or not it's ever actually realized. This is why there is still a debate about him. We've already seen him be valued far more than he's worth to us, whereas I'd imagine Skrtel is not particularly salable. If we decide to bring in a new CB, it's likely going to be Agger who goes.

For what it's worth I never enter any discussion with that purpose, to wind people up, I love to talk about football not so much all the bickering and sniding. Is the truth.

I am no different than most of you however, when being provoked I sometimes respond and probably not always in the most optimal way. Sometimes I bite though when I really know I shouldn't.

Not really.

I don't understand the joke either.

I am getting all sleepy now. To much action in one day on here.
