Could it be true? - RE Suarez

Why on earth would a club offer their best player - who's not amongst the highest earners and being linked with the biggest clubs in Europe - a better deal? What kind of eeeeejits are we? Sell the money grubbing cunt.

Money grubbing ?

Fuck, so it's true about Standard Chartered and the filthy lucre ?

DAMN IT ALL TO HELL !

Quite so. I certainly expect Agger to sign a contract that improves his pay for the remaining 2 years of his contract.
It makes perfect sense to do that.
And when we are outsalaried by Spurs for Sahin or whomever id be almost certain no one on here will complain because we used the extra to secure a player on a contract......that he was ALREADY secured on

Its a bullshit fan appeasing story in leui of actually having anything positive for us.
But thats fine as it seems to be working, so two thumbs up from me. Whats not to love.

given that there has been speculation about some clubs wanting him this summer, im glad he has signed a contract, even if it means paying him more. he's our best player and it's a sign of commitment from him either way
He hasnt signed a contract though!! He already has the contract. He has just been given a payrise.

Quite, it's not just about the Juve interest, it's about the general interest that appears every month or so, the fact he's a class player, the fact the press seem intent on creating a "Suarez wants to escape the taunts of the Premiership fans" story every few weeks, the fact we want to say, you've scored 20 odd goals in 50 odd games for us, well done son, give us more of the same.

Before someone inevitably points it out, I know he's been a dick sometimes and needs to learn to keep his mouthshut (so did Bellamy, who many are distraught about leaving), but we were loyal to him and hopefully this is an opportune fuck you to all the naysayers and the critics, a determination on both parts to keep going and fight for the club.

You might think it's a pointless exercise,, a pointless extension at this point with 4 years left would have been worse IMO, we'd have been potentially burdening ourselves with his wages over a spell of several years, no one knows what's around the corner. The length of the deal is correct, we've just improved it. We've seen in recent years us lose CL money, waste money on shit players and now pay for it by having to curb it, despite the increase this seems to be securing his short-term future at what is only an increase and a relatively modest £35k per week in footballing terms.

The argument seems to be that we should have held Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy against their will, they've all been relatively good servants to the club and respectful to us, you get what you give and all that. For all those moaning we've lost a bit of soul, it's good to see will have some respect for people. There's no winning on this really though is there, Rodgers is a cunt for not nipping the Carroll story in the bud, but he's also a cunt for respecting the wishes of three loyal servants.

Why bother paying our star player a better salary? We've only offload Kuyt (80k?), Maxi (80k?), Aquilani (80k?) etc ... so we add an extra 20k a week to make one of our best players more likely to stay. Nah, let's leave him on the same contract -

This is positive b/c it shows we're willing to pay our best players what they deserve - not our dross what they don't.

Yeah its great.

At least he says he's one of our best players ... that's something!
Ive done nothing but heap praise on Suarez all summer and have constantly included him in my lets not sell list (certainly softening my earlier stance) i regularly had him in my top 3 votes, I named him our second best player after Skrtel last year.
Yeah but why let that get in the way of an agenda.
For the record if we offered Skrtel an improved wage for the same length of contract i would be against that too.
I am saddened and really fucking dissappointed that this predictable turn of events has taken place in this thread.
I called it. And hoped i would be proved wrong.
Shame.

I agree with you Andy

If the contract length is the same as it already was.... Nothing really has been gained but money has been lost.

Thrilled he's staying, but he could still quite easily leave next year for a severely reduced fee now, as who's to say a clause hasn't been added

Ahhh why are you posting this when that's what I said? Despite you having it in for a player, you've always said he's one of our better players etc ... I didn't need that explained to me, I was just using it to tell Vlad that it's not all darkness with you and Suarez.

I think you need to look at it backwards Andy.

If suarez, our best player, left, for the sake of 20/30k a week we'd be fucking fuming & say the club had fucked up.

We've paid to keep the club's reputation from suffering & us looking like we simply sell our best player, again, to a bigger club. That would have made any player with another offer on the table think twice before joining us.

It was the right decision Andy. Maybe not in an ideal world, if we were chelsea, or city, but where our club is now, it was the right decision.

Utd did it with Rooney, & they're in a better place than we are, so why not us now?

For fucks sake can't everyone take this as the positive it clearly is, its fairly obvious as our best player we were going to have to pay him more than the 35k he was on, had he any intentions of moving on he would have done it now.
As for Oncey, yes yes he acknowledges his footballing ability, he has little choice to, but he hates him as a man, and has admitted to that on several occasions, so clearly has issues with him, and is not quite as open minded as he would like us to think, that's fine, I understand that, but all the faux indignance? Come on.

regards

Is it not the same posters who were giving out about selling Meireles last year and how the club fucked up when he was looking a pay rise, even though he'd only signed a contract 12 months before giving out about giving our best player a pay rise.

Saurez has been our best player over the last 18 months and deserves to be paid the going rate, players of his quality deserve to the high earners.

It's not a terrible decision, but it's not exactly brilliant or massive news either.

It's being blown out of proportion because we've got fuck all to chat about.

I seriously doubt he was on 35k a week, I remember a lot of stories about 80k a week when he signed.

My understanding is that Premier Leage requires an extra year to be added to the contract if the pay is to be increased, so I'm guessing we'll be in the same situation next year but with less money.

I don't agree that it's particularly significant, it's not like we had to sell him if he didn't get a new deal

Just imagine if he scored regularly - the club would have to sell half the bloody squad to improve his next contract!

He does score regularly, when he's fully rested. Unfortunately he played in the fucking Olympics so that combined with the Europa fucking million games league he won't be this season.

And it's not the Dutch league. (Just joking, I'm pleased he's signed again.)

His shooting was a helluva lot more accurate when rested when he first arrived, a full summer will have him firing them in. I'm convinced of it.
