given that there has been speculation about some clubs wanting him this summer, im glad he has signed a contract, even if it means paying him more. he's our best player and it's a sign of commitment from him either way
Quite, it's not just about the Juve interest, it's about the general interest that appears every month or so, the fact he's a class player, the fact the press seem intent on creating a "Suarez wants to escape the taunts of the Premiership fans" story every few weeks, the fact we want to say, you've scored 20 odd goals in 50 odd games for us, well done son, give us more of the same.
Before someone inevitably points it out, I know he's been a dick sometimes and needs to learn to keep his mouthshut (so did Bellamy, who many are distraught about leaving), but we were loyal to him and hopefully this is an opportune fuck you to all the naysayers and the critics, a determination on both parts to keep going and fight for the club.
You might think it's a pointless exercise,, a pointless extension at this point with 4 years left would have been worse IMO, we'd have been potentially burdening ourselves with his wages over a spell of several years, no one knows what's around the corner. The length of the deal is correct, we've just improved it. We've seen in recent years us lose CL money, waste money on shit players and now pay for it by having to curb it, despite the increase this seems to be securing his short-term future at what is only an increase and a relatively modest £35k per week in footballing terms.
The argument seems to be that we should have held Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy against their will, they've all been relatively good servants to the club and respectful to us, you get what you give and all that. For all those moaning we've lost a bit of soul, it's good to see will have some respect for people. There's no winning on this really though is there, Rodgers is a cunt for not nipping the Carroll story in the bud, but he's also a cunt for respecting the wishes of three loyal servants.
