Course he could have done, I guess it was a statement on our part to say to him that we want him to stay and are willing to offer him an improved deal to do so, with him being our best player (I know he's not done himself favours at times). It's all PR bullshit but as Vlad said, it's a statement of loyalty from him, however short term that may be. Regardless of the length of the deal, as it was a fairly lengthy deal he signed with us originally anyway. If nothing had changed on his deal this Summer, the speculation would have been given room to gather, this nips it in the bud, if only for the time being.
