Could Glen Johnson be our Gareth Bale

Lets not forget that Bale, who was bought as a left back but dropped because he was a defensive liability, has proven to be a revelation at LW.

All of these people saying Glen cant play RW, but I'd bet that there were numerous Spurs fans who thought Bale was a waste of money and wouldnt be able to do it.

The only way we'll know for sure is if he's given a chance. He has pace, skill, can take people on and has a good shot. All the raw ingredients for a top attacking midfielder

Nah..everybody looks at the record that Spurs did not win a game for quite a number of games when Bale started and say he was defensively liability.

It's very dubious to put the blame for the failings of a team on one 20 year old.

I bet there were many who thought Bale was a very very good player at the beginning of last season when he was not setting the house on fire.

He was energetic and ran up and down all day.
He was brilliant with set pieces even at that early stage.
He had a good touch and dribbling ability.

That has not changed. He did reasonably well at Left Back for spurs. He was not an abject failure at any rate. Even then there was a hint that he could excel if played further up field.

If Glen Johnson plays RM or Right wing and does well, then you have to be sorry for him as it would mean people mismanaged his career for 8 years at Chelsea, Portsmouth and Liverpool. I'm not saying that couldn't have happened. There is no harm in trying him there for 30 mins at that position in a few games and then longer trials if he does well. He did fairly well in that position for Portsmouth.

Dani Alves is not a much better defender than GlenJo, the difference is, he thrives in Barca's system. He plays as RB, but spends most of his time running in behind the opposition defenders, not keeping his own defensive line. His defensive duties are mostly to run back in case of a counter-attack and launch a desperate tackle. Glen Johnson can do that just as well.

Alves is a better footballer than Glenjo, which also helps.

The Barca system plays to Alves' strengths. Magic would thrive there to.

Barca have lots of intelligent players, that's half the battle. I'm not sure a thick, half conscious, chubby English International with crap hair would 'thrive' there.

Has Glen trimmed down during his 'injury'?

Times change quick. Most dickbreaths on here thought Johnson was the best RB going 12 months ago. Never mind.

In answer to the question, No.

WTF has thick got to do with anything? Rooney is quite thick but is a decent enough footballer.

Magic is a decent footballer. Show me a fullback who thrived at Liverpool in the last season? Their form is symptomatic of all that wrong with us. Injuries, poor team selections and a team lacking confidence.

Get him on the wing?

He pretty much ambled his way through the match.

He was painfully,PAINFULLY slow and I was screaming at him to be taken off.

He hardly ran, he hardly even challenged attackers and he spent much of the game waiting for the ball instead of waiting for something to happen.

He could also barely string a few passes together, and aside from one of his few runs which won us the penalty was totally anonymous.

The missus put it best, 'I think he's had too much for dinner and can't move'.

We're hoping that he'd be better utilised with different tactics, but unless HOdgson has been telling to hang about and amble around counting the blades of grass, this is a forlorn hope.

The only person more shit than him was Christian fucking Poulsen.
