The USA are not as bad as everyone here is making them out to be. They're not Andorra or New Zealand. They always score goals in World Cups and they're never outclassed or thrashed. This was like watching a midtable PL team beat one of the Top 4. It might happen quite rarely, but it does happen - and there's nothing particularly freakish about it.

They were great in the 1998 world cup, I think 0-0-3, even losing to the Mighty Iranians.
How did they do in the last world cup? If they did poorly, they'll do well in this world cup. They go in cycles ...
And it's a hard working, strong unit that 'plays for the badge'. They're not a bad team but they're not in the top tier of int'l teams, or even the 2nd tier ... They're below teams like Turkey, Denmark etc ...

As someone who is forced to watch far too much American [football], I would agree with that statement 100%.
They're a long way from crossing into the top tier, or challenging for World Cups. I don't respect Donovan, nor do I rate Adu too highly, so I don't know what to expect from the future. But you're right--the best US teams have always been devoid of talent, relying on strong team play.

They'll do well in the World Cup in 2010 - my guess, 2nd round or quarter finals.
Btw, I feel your pain. I used to have to watch the MLS far too much ... I think it hurt me.

I really want to support the MLS, I just can't. Mind you, if I do watch part of a game, then watch Liverpool, it is like every player is Zidona.
